yeah...this story doesn't have a name yet. I doubt I will ever write more, just because I don't have the attention span, lol. But I feel like posting it here anyway.:

The boy knew it was love. He couldn’t explain why he felt the way he did, or why it was with someone he knew he could never have a real relationship with his object of passion. He knew that the one he loved would never love him back, never could love him back. He understood perfectly, but that didn’t take away the boy’s pain at knowing he could never be with the man of his dreams.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The boy was called Brandon McCann. Brandon was a junior at Stonewall High School, in Gainesville, Georgia. He was involved in the drama program at his school. Brandon was usually a lead character in the latest drama.

This year, he portrayed the Tin Man in “The Wiz”. It was the first day of rehearsal he met the man of his dreams, the man he wanted more than any man or woman.

He walked into the backstage area, which he was very familiar with. He’d been involved in drama enough to know all the ins and outs of the theater. Hell, he’d even know where the squeaky stair leading to the tech booth was. When he walked in, he noticed a newcomer. He figured it was the person who would portray the Lion in “The Wiz”. He tried to glare at the stranger. Brandon’s best guy friend, Mitch Drew, had auditioned for the part of the lion, but this newcomer had taken his role and Mitch had no part.

The key word in that paragraph being “tried”. He couldn’t help but notice some attractiveness in this guy. He had dark brown hair. It reminded Brandon of dark chocolate. It was also slightly curly, not the tight curls which make someone look ridiculous, but loose curls that went nicely around his ears. His smile is what really caught Brandon’s attention. The right corner of his mouth curled upward more than the left one. His teeth were very white. But it wasn’t just his mouth; it was his eyes too. His eyes smiled along with his mouth, showing the that he was either genuinely glad to see Brandon, or a very good actor. But there are very few actors talented enough to fake emotions through the eyes.

The newcomer stood up and extended his arm towards Brandon.

“Hey. I’m the lion. In public, they call me Cameron. Cameron Daniels.”

His hand was warm and felt good in his. He couldn’t help but smile at Cameron, who he was trying to hate, because he’d taken Mitch’s role.

“I’m Tin Man. In public, I’m Brandon McCann.”

“Brandon. Hey, crazy world. That’s my middle name. And my older brother’s name too.”

Brandon felt warmer by the second. More connection to Cameron.

Dude, you hate this guy! He took Mitch’s role. Mitch is probably a better actor than this guy! Besides, why should I care if he has my middle name, or how the hell his hair curls and he smiles? Why?

Brandon and Cameron sat next to each other and waited for the rest of the cast to come backstage. Slowly, Dorothy, The Wiz, the Scarecrow, The Wicked Witch filed in, along with the rest of the cast. All drama geeks, all having been in plays since they’ve been at Stonewall. All glaring at Brandon because he was in while Mitch wasn’t. He tried to smile at others, but they glared, not seeing a nice and talented guy, but a guy who’d ruthlessly tricked Ms. Vicky, the drama teacher, into having a part he didn’t deserve.

Nice and talented? Dude, he can’t be any more talented than Mitch. He hasn’t even been in a play before! Mitch should be here, not Cameron!

Cameron realized that he was not part of the drama clique rather quickly. He gave Brandon a confused and disappointed look. Brandon felt a pit in his stomach. Brandon knew the feeling of being left out. He whispered to Cameron, “Don’t worry, dude. They just can’t accept someone outside of the drama geek clique could have an ounce of talent. Once they see you in action, you’ll be in.”

He just rolled his eyes. “Dude, if they only care about how talented I am, they’re probably assholes anyway. I’d rather not deal with people who are so wrapped up in their world that they can’t welcome a new guy.”

Brandon smiled. He never would’ve guessed that Cameron would have come up with that. He seemed like the type that cares what others think. Cameron was really growing on him.

Others glared at Brandon too, for sitting even remotely close to Cameron. Brandon just ignored them. Cameron was right. They aren’t actually assholes and they are cool, but at the moment, they were being arrogant and snobbish.

Ms. Vicky welcomed everyone and told us how excited she was about this play, how it would require work and dedication and how great we could be. Then she said, “I know we all know each other here. We’ve grown up through our performances here. And I hope we can see more from the one new actor we have joining our production.” She read her cast list. “Cameron Daniels? Please come to the front.”

Cameron walked to the front of the room. He looked at Ms. Vicky, waiting for her to tell him what he was doing up there, and not nervous about being in a room filled with people that hate him for being better than Mitch. Brandon realized they were being ridiculous, and Mitch was his best friend.

“Everyone, this is Cameron, who will be the Lion in our production. Now, I know how all of you are about new people sometimes. I know you would’ve preferred to have all of our normal cast members here, but when someone just acts better, they are going to be cast. Now, if you guys aren’t going to act like a team, I suggest you let me know now and I can replace you. You may sit back down, Cameron.”

Cameron smirked at the look of shock on the other’s faces. They clearly didn’t know how observant Ms. Vicky was. Brandon smirked a little too.

After Ms. Vicky’s lecture on treatment of cast members, we read over our script. Cameron caught on quickly to how a read-through should go. He had his lion voice set perfectly. He knew the character already. Brandon was impressed.

After the rehearsal, Cameron and Brandon talked while waiting for his ride. Brandon could drive, but Cameron was still fifteen and he was too interested in Cameron to leave.

“I don’t know why I tried out for ‘The Wiz’. I have done some theater, back at my other school. But if I had known all the cast members were going to exclude me cuz I got the role instead of some other dude, I wouldn’t have gotten involved.”

“They’re cool, dude, you just have to get to know them. I’ve never seen them like that before. Mitch, the guy who tried out for the lion too, he’s friends with everyone here, and we aren’t used to new faces.”

Cameron rolled his eyes. “At my old school, there wasn’t that attitude. We usually didn’t have all the same people in all the plays all the time. I didn’t always get a role, neither did anyone else. They cried, then they try to improve and the others get that the best got the part.”

Brandon was convinced that Cameron was right. He’d just never thought about it before. He never had to, really. Cameron was just smarter than him.

It turns out Cameron was from a different county in Georgia, Cobb county. He moved to Gainesville because his parents divorced a year ago and his dad had remarried a woman who lived in Gainesville. His stepmom refused to live in Cobb, because all her family was in Gainesville.

“Wow, so she can’t handle being just a few hours away? God, how pathetic! My mom moved to New York, where all of her family is, and they’re all on the northern half of the country. But Rachel can’t bear to be outside of walking distance of her family.” He rolled his eyes. “She pisses me off so much. If I had had half a brain, I would’ve went with my mom, but I’m too scared to move to New York.”

Brandon nodded. He couldn’t really sympathize. He didn’t have a dad, but his parents remained married. When Brandon was nine, his dad died in a car accident. He missed his father, but he never felt like he ever really knew him. So he wasn’t too upset about his death, or hadn’t been in years. His mom was still slightly depressed about the loss of her husband, but she was comforted by the thought that he was in heaven. His family was Catholic, and very strict to their religion.

Cameron’s ride came and Brandon felt a small sadness that he had to leave. But a bigger happiness when Cameron handed him a piece of paper and said, “That’s my cell. Since I’m the newcomer who has taken Golden Boy’s place, I’ll probably be bored for a while. If you get bored too, call.”

Brandon flashed him a smile. “Sure.” He still had a dopey grin on his face when Cameron had driven off.

Brandon felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Alaina smiling at him. Alaina was someone great to have smiling at you. Brandon had always had a small crush on her and was excited when he found out she had felt the same. They’d been going out for five months now. He really liked her, but he knew he could live without her being his girlfriend.

She kissed him lightly on the lips. “Hey baby,” she said seductively. He grinned. Alaina was so cute. She had sparkling green eyes and dimples. She was petite, but had a good figure too.

“Hey ’Laina. What’s up?”

She smiled bigger. Her eyes were in it too, but not the way Cameron’s eyes were. His eyes were so involved and so dark, he could fall into them.

Wait a second. You did not just think that! Cameron is a guy, for Christ’s sakes! What kind of guy notices that stuff about other guys?

Alaina must’ve sensed something in Brandon’s face, because her smiled turned into a concerned frown. “What’s wrong? Are you ok?”

Brandon forced a smile. He bet his eyes weren’t in it, but he hoped to fool Alaina anyway. “I’m fine. Just worn out, from rehearsal. But I’m glad you’re hear.”

She smiled again, and he leaned down and kissed Alaina. His girlfriend. His pretty, nice, sweet girlfriend who he loved.
