;) hello everyone, i'm the proud owner of the Househam dutton that has been mentioned in your threads, i had no idea it is so rare when i bought it last june, a chap had it for 6 years and had done 3k miles in it and kept it in a carpeted heated garage!
I have done some research and the sister car (p1) is owned by the original builder in Lincolnshire. looking forward to the summer! and all the help & advice from you guys.

Welcome Tony

Also nice to hear that the sister car is also still in existence - If you dont have the original Hot Car article on the car I can send you a copy.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome andrew, i think this forum is going to be a valuable resource. i'm not that well up on kit cars and i've got a lot to learn. I don't have much historic info on the car unfortunately, and i'm struggling to find out what doner car the axle is from, but hey that's all part of the fun. Thanks for the offer of the hot rod mag I'll PM you.
Regards.

I would expect the axle to be an Atlas from MK1 3.0L Capri

Thanks Andrew, i've had an experienced mechanic of 30 years look at the axle and he doesn't know what it from. the brakes are Ford, I have a pic with the half shaft removed.....errm...not sure how to add a pic to a post?

yes, it does look similar from what i can see of it. The problem i'm having is a small oil leak which works its way into the brake drum, I have been unable to source new seals although the old seals don't appear damaged. I have managed to add a pic of the wheel plate with the drum and half shaft removed, this shows the bearing but the O ring seal fits to the half shaft......what do you think?

Hello Tony,

They are not stock Ford shafts and bearings - the standard Ford shaft is a solid affair - and to replace bearings the complete shaft has to be widthdrawn from the axle.

That one is indeed a bit odd looks like it could be some sort of Ford rally sport option for the rally boys allowing shafts to be changed without stripping the entire axle out - in the more I think about and read your description the more likley they are to be special two piece rally parts

Quiafe site might be worth a try - or e-mail them or Burton the picture

As Andy says looks like a modified version of the Axle. Some more pictures might help to confirm if its a semi floating or fully floating conversion. I have Atlas axles from a 3.0 and 2.8 Capri and have replaced the bearings on both and neither look like yours.

see pics on http://www.malhire.co.uk/Mal's%20Pics/Atlas%202.jpg of look at the Fostek site on http://www.fostek.co.uk/cat/casingsindex.html

It might also be worth while checking if its got a limmited slip diff or normal.

Cheers and welcome

Barry
