Title: Rear discs in english axle
Description: Fiesta (party) discs and calipers

Lanseros - November 26, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
I´m trying to fit it... I´ve bought a pair of brackets and now i´m changing drums and brake lines to conect all The hand brake will be hydraulic and...
Any advice?????????????????

Andy S - November 26, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)

What sort of advice are you after - the conversion is quite common even though its not as straight forward as it made out to be.

Seem to recall that Fiesta front discs are used and Golf calliper so as to use cable handbrake - half shafts need to be removed and the flange turned down to fit inside the disc.

Cheers

And The rear golf calipers can be used with the fiesta discs and the brackets designed for the fiesta calipers? Or there are diferent brackets for the golf calipers?
What´s the inconvenience of a hydraulic hand brake

In the UK a hydraulic handbrake is illegal - law requires a separate mechanical system.

I dont know about the spacing on the Golf Calipers on Ford brakets - but I think that late model Sierra Calipers work.

Search on the Escort RS/ mk2 - Capri type sites

Sorry, but why would you want to put discs on the back of such a light weight car?????

You are also going to get big problems with brake bias, as the rear pistons in the sierra, golf, etc. calipers are huGE!!

If you must, then look for Fiat X19 calipers. They are all alloy, closed back design, and have small (ish) pots.

Personally, you are just making yourself more work, cost and grief, without any need what so ever!!

I have "humble" morris Ital drums on the back of a Dutton with 220 BHP.
Happy as Larry, and half the weight of what you are trying to do!

Sorry, but I get sick of people thinking Big is Best.

I agree except the weight of the drums, the disc kit is lighter than drums and suffer form less hot, all the disadvantages can be adjusted with a brake vias valve... It´s only for spend free time, I have a 244 kent, 2x weber DCOE kit a dry sump kit... Duplex chain... I´ll only use the brakes I need It can be adjusted.
In brakes more is better for me (and more if it´s simplier and lighter), in the engine, lighter is better for me and I prefer an agile 1700 xflow than a V8.

Ups... I´ll use the front mkI fierta front calipers and discs... I think it´s too much, but I´ll try... I´ve been studing it and now I´ll learn the pactice. And I will use the worst pads and will be enough :D :P

And the balance in the brake is better...

Lanseros - November 27, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
Sorry I must use a mk2 fiesta calipers, it´s too much I´ll say you how it ends Fot the kit you need a mk2 fiesta calipers and discs the bracket plates 22 pounds in MCGILLMOTORSPORT@aol.com to grind tha halfshaft outer diameter 3mm and lots of pacience to take out them... then you need a hydraulic handbrake (unlegal in UK) and a brake vias...

voodooracer - November 28, 2007 02:32 PM (GMT)
Who said anything about a V8?
-Mine is a 4 pot too.

Well, I give up!
The lighter the car, the LESS brakes you need, so I am totally lost on what you are trying to do.
-The only advantage for the discs is the lack of adjustment that is required with drums.
On the weight issue, have you taken into account all the extra "stuff"?

-Only way to truely dial the brake bias is with a proper 2 master pedal box.
Proportioning valves are rubbish.

Just trying to save you time, money, and hassle, based on my 25 years of experience.
However, if you want to make the same mistakes I made many years ago, and find out for yourself, then be my guest.

-Is it any wonder Duttons look scruffy.
If all that effort was put into finishing, they would all be mint.

What are you using on the front ?, never known rear drums to be a problem.

Just sort the fronts out and keep the drums :)

Too late I destroied the drum plate of the right side because I couldn´t estract the half shaft... I start to think it´s an error... but really easy to correct and allways it will be more effective than drums, I agree with vodoo in the mistakes but I really think bigger is better, I You can easily reduce with a valve but if you need more it wont be possible, I´only will try to learn with a car who is made from lots of pieces... So I can change one and it´s original :D I never would do in my minis...
even I hate drums...
If I need to use a brake vias pedal Box I´ll find... About he weight I continue with the same the discs are lighter i´m sure, more than 2 kg For the increase of the pedal box and hydraulic hanbrake, I know...

Vodoo have you any advice for the instalation of the dry sump ? I have a 3 US gallon tank (I know it´s too much :D) and the pieces you see... I have the folowers for the camshaft, the doble springs and the dual chain (I only need the pad for the tensor....

the manifold for the DCOE is in the postage and the fiesta completly new 36 DCNF and original ford manifold is for sale. I have new filters for the DCNF´s.

I HAVE AN EARLY KENT BLOCK DRY SUMP FOR SALE...

The link when I bought.

In Spain the law that said duttons must be the chaepest kitcars is not active :D (we have our own morgan replicas and ane not cheap  )
What I want is to increase the power with pieces of the same age of the car... With new pieces when I can or with used ones if are much expecive or imposible to find new. Dont worry about, with the time i´ve spent and the spanish plate It will be fine.

Lanseros - November 28, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
The front discs are the non vent originals in a mk1-2 escort or cortina. When I end with the rear side I´ll continue in the front with a pair of hummer discs :D

Lanseros - November 28, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
And after the brakes I´ll put the drive wheell in the correct side :P

Andy S - November 28, 2007 09:36 PM (GMT)

:D :P

I am sure Graham had only good intentions with his advice - and I will admit that wrote something similar in my original response but I deleted it as I figure each to his own - I cant figure why people fit LSD's to Golfs - Lambo style doors :P not diffs.

Maybe you will have the discs skimmed to make them lighter and fit Willwood alloy caliper with integrated hand brake which will make the weight very similar - and correct piston selection end up with the brakes not being too powerful.

looks like you have been plenty busy enough - and at least the disc's will be real ones and not drilled plywood as I saw bolted between wheel and drum on a Dutton on the DOC stand at Stoneleigh one year

Take it easy

I would never do it, wood discs :D...

Dutton with lambo doors

I know what Graham says but broke my ilusion, Thats not the didactic way...
The didactic way will be when I try to brake and block the rear axle :D (i´m not sure it will occur...

Lanseros - November 30, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
Dont worry today i´ve been trying to install the mk1 fiesta and i´ve dicovered than the mk1 and mk2 fiesta calipers are interchangeable (the discs are the same) so, now that knows than the fiesta mk1 calipers are much small than mk2 i´m not wooried, I´m sure the power is a litttle bit more than a drum :D...
I love try and error

Fiesta mk1 pad size: 108x38mm=4104mm2 disc 221mm
Fiesta mk2 pad size: 141x42mm=5922mm2 disc 221mm
Sierra rear pad size: 90x54mm=4860mm2 disc 252,5 mm

 :o ;) :D :P
