Hi, starting to think about seating position on my S1 as Im just about to start building the bulkheads in steel/alloy and upgrading to a Sierra steering column. What do other people use for seats in their S1? Is a sub frame required? Mine came with some cushions is that it?

PS any views on the prefered method of mounting pedal boxes (so the pedals hang down, or on the floor so the point upwards ala VW)? I note standard Dutton is hanging down, but there seems to be quite a few floor mounted versions on ebay these days.
Standard S1 seating is cushions as the seats are molded into the inner tub and Pedals are usually top hinged because they are from a Ford donor in the instructions and usually with the molded inner tub there is not a lot to mount to for floor mounts.
With what you are doing and have to do for SVA you are pretty well breaking the ground as you go.
With the way my V8 is installed in mine there is no room for an OBP type floor mount set up as the clutch master will hit the starter motor and the lower part of the floor area is too small anyway.
I am making a pedal box that points the M/C's toward the driver and places them under the level of the scuttle.
As the rear seating is compromised by the way the trailing links kick I am using old style Westfield seats that are just contoured squabs on a plywood base that I can trim to fit.
I have chopped the trailing link brackets off the chassis and moved them outboard by 1/2" and cut and repositioned the chassis rail that goes between them and made it from smaller 3/4" square tubing to gain every little bit of interior space I can as the nose of the 3.0L axle is a bit big and means a pretty big trans tunnel.
After making and remaking the plans twice already I think I have it sorted now.
Post some progress pictures.

Andy, thanks
I hoping to gain more room by taking the bulkhead and foot well out to the chassis, I've also got short legs which might help! Not sure how much engine movement to allow for, I keep thinking of how much my old Norton Commando engine moved in its isolastics and wanting to leave two inches of clearance all around!
I’m planning to replace the trailing link brackets for something a little stronger and thinking of rose jointing the rods to add some adjustment. The original pedal box on mine was mounted from the top and I think was based on a cortina? Its a bit thin and I’m concerned that the SVA man may not think them to be study enough
The main issue with the back axel for me is that I keep wondering how on the hell to fit the handbrake as the shocker springs/body get in the way of the rods/wires. One solution would be to fit discs (rear off a sierra) but I don’t really want to spend the money as its needed elsewhere on the build (radiator, fan, dash/instruments, upgrading front brakes etc). An alternative would be to change/adapt the actuation arms but don’t want to look like a bodge, they would have to come to the rear by about 1 to 2 inches!
I also see some people have added a rear frame to take the weight of the petrol tank and act as mounting point for exhaust, which seems like a good idea.
