17-inchers would probably fill that gap under the arches that so many people complain about.... I suspect that the reason most people haven't put them on is that they'd be hard to find in a 4x4.25 bc with the proper backspace and offset, and 17" wheels and tires tend to be a bit spendy.

Diameter of the wheel should have little effect - what you need to be aware of is the offset/back space of the wheel you are considering - Front wheel drive cars have a large offset in the positive - the wheel dissh of the wheel inwards - Rear drive cars have less positive offset and are neutral or even negative offset - ala Carlos Fandango Anglia's of old - Its the back space thats the easiest check - this is the distance from the hub mounting face to the inside of the rim - on a Dutton this needs to be approx. 95mm or less, or you need spacers.

this measurement will dictate the offset for any given width.

So a 17" with a 95mm back space and a suitably low profile tyre to kep the rolling diameter in check will do the job very nicely - Still as Caterhams street rocket the R500 runs 13's you gotta wonder.

13s are a lot lighter and are a way to get the equivalent of deeper gearing, which is why my next set of autocross wheels will be 13s. I'm running 14s for the street.
