running a 2lt on twin 40 webbers, the haynes manual says 8 degees ( i think ) advance timing for a standard carb. snouting about on the web and some pages state between 12 and 14 degrees. can anyone shed some light on this, unless 8 is ok.
cheers.

On a performance engine static is not as important as advance at max power for the cam - usually around 38 degrees - My suggestion would be find out the max advance on the dizzy you have then add your static advance to suit. If its a standard cam go with the standard advance as the carbs will have little effect as when they become effective the cam wont be there to use them.

full advance is achieved by the bob weihts in the dizzy has been a while since playing with a pinto but I believe full advance is around 3800rpm - 4000rpm full power would of course be a lot higher standered cam I believe is achieved at 5800rpm so dont thrash the poor thing to its peak power to set max advance around 4000rpm would be plenty. But this depends on what you wish to use it for as we ran an uprated pinto in a MK II escort RL1 cam forties etc 8 degrees was fine for road use idle was ok pick up fine but full power was down until we set up full 36 degrees full advance at 4000rpm then power at top end was great but idle was lumpy and under 2500rpm was poor pick up

There is a good write up on Dave Andrews web site that tells you how to set up and you can download it for future reference.
