Try and get some discussions going.

In motorsport what needs to be done to the Dutton roll bar to make it eligible? anyone got any idea's - I intend to do a bit of Hill climbing and sprinting :ph43r: in my S3 but that bar will not be any good I am sure.

Cheers

Andrew

HI

Been out of motorsport for a few years now but seem to remember you will need a full cage which was then 38mm cold drawn seamless tubing It could now be 40mm best to check on the RACMSA web site if I remember rightly it states there the requirememnts for cages

Thanks - I have had a look at the site and have ordered my racing Pack. £39 with video! - nearly as much as you pay for Dutton these days ;)

I Hilclimb and Sprint my S3 Phaeton, which is road legal and competes as a Road legal kit car. Apart from your NON RACE national B licence, In this class you require very little in the way of modification. The blue book (MSA regulation book) will give you the full list, but basically you only need, a master switch for the electrics, marked on/ off for the ignition switch, yellow tape on the earth lead, a basic (proban as a minimum) fire suit and an approved helmet. It would be great to see some morew Duttons in the paddock, where are you based? and which race series are you loopking to compete in?

I've visited the sprint at Dunkerswell a couple of times and have seen a totally re-engineered space framed chassis clothed in a green S2 body running a V8 well positioned ito the passenger footwell to aid weight distribution.

To be honest it sounded lovely in a lazy sort of way compared to the screaming 7's that were there. It also seemed down on pace and aggression when compared to the other machinery screaming and being flung about the track. However when it broke the timing beam it had easily beaten thier times!

So although not as 100% true as Mr Dutton intended it did fly the flag for the marque in a sea of lotus 7 copies!

Has this car been featured in the DOC mag at all? I'd be interested to read the full spec.

Cheers

Dear Guest,

I am near Shrewsbury (west midlands I guess) there a couple of local hill and sprint tracks - Its early days for me I am still building the car up. Any assistance and advice from such as yourself who has done it / doing it would be worth its weight in Tea and hob nobs and assistance in the paddock anytime you ask. - You will now tell me your race on the isle of Sky or Kent

I would be very grateful for any advice or assistance.

Have master switch - Have tape - will get helmet and suit nearer the time.

I am sure that this sort of activity would be worthy of an article in the DOC mag.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I have now managed to sign in rather than be a guest, (LUDITE!) Your'e a little way from me as I'm based in the South West, Weston Super Mare. But if I can be of any assistance I'd be happy to help. First things first, if your not already, you need to become a member of a local motor club, I have no idea wich ones are in your area. This is a requirement of most if not all championships and shouldn't cost you much more than £10-15. Next you need a MSA NON RACE NATIONAL B competition licence, which is available from the MSA for the princely sum of £30, there is no requirement for a medical. Once armed with your Licence and Club Membership card your all set, now for the car. Most clubs run championships whch have various classes, many include road going kit cars, which is by far your best bet, for this as I said before the modifications are very few. The car requires a current MOT, Tax and insurance, on/off ignition needs to be marked, the earth lead needs to be marked with yellow tape and really thats about it, the blue book that you recieve with your licence will tell you anything I've forgotten, although its not the most user freindly tome! Your licence will run from JAN-JAN so beware when you aplly, if you apply in NOV, it will still run out in JAN and still cost you £30!!!!
Best of Luck and as I said any assistance I can be just let me know. SIMON

Great to have a chat about racing Simon - On the engine front I have decided to fit an 1800 Pinto to the S4 for the time being whilst I rebuild the RS2 lump - 160BHP would be nice but as you say if you cant put it to good use whats the point.

Took your advice and applied for membership of my local club - the Hagley and district light car club. getting all the license bits sorted next week. You are a great help - article for the DOC in the making- let me know your first event and I will come along with the camera.

Had a good look at the S3 today - pulled the body off the chassis to have a good look - very interesting that the S3 and S4 chassis have a great many differences.

Lots of work needed on both cars to get them sorted but as they are simple it should not take long.

Having two cars is a real help as the build on one gives me idea's how to improve the other - today I compared pedal boxes and although the same they are in completely different places? - getting the build manual out to see whats happened.

If anyones interested I have an Eagle P21 build manual as well for refence.

Going Racing :ph43r: - Soon

Glad to be any help I can Andrew, phone anytime if you ever need a hand, maybe I'll bring the S3 north for the day. if you fancy a trip south, the Breadline Racing Team's first event this season is the Wessex Sprint at Colerne Airfield (just south of Castle Coombe) on the 5th of May and then the Llandow Sprint at funnily enough Llandow South Wales on the 26th of May, you'd be very welcome.
