Title: rolling road

bobterry - November 29, 2006 04:03 PM (GMT)
Well the car was taken and put on the rolling road, on the first run up the clutch went, exploded into a thousand bits and took out the bell housing and gear box :( . So if anyone know where there is a 5 speed gear box for a fiat 131 1600 tohc give a shout!! Apprently it got to 83.4bhp before it gave up the ghost.

Yea thats what i thought :( glad i've got a type 9 now !!

*ods law, one on ebay 2 days ago, starting price £20 but did not sell. Thought about having it at the time but what do you need a spare gear box for  trying to get in touch with seller but no joy. If its gonna cost to much for fiat gearbox may have to look at changing the lump as well.

The cars got a MK2 tina axial so shoud not be that bad. Its just the fiat gave 83 bhp before it had even been tunned. the timming is out 30 deg aswell so once tunned correctly it should give a good bit more than the standard 75bhp for the 1.6 pinto.

It gave the other half just the reason to moan, she wants me to get a westie. This for her is just the reason to get rid of the s2, but I like the look so battle of the *exs will start. Did not help that I told her she's got to sell her puma to pay for new gearbox. Her pride and joy, but even when the s2 was running it left her's for dead ;)

Replacement 5 speed fiat gearbox on route to me + new comp. clutch. :D

Cheers Jonno

Should have it back and on the road for next weekend, then just the question of does it go back to the rolling road of death!

jonno - November 30, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
No problem, glad to help :D
Shame there was'nt a cheaper one :(

Rolling road sounds like it just highlighted a fault that was probley going to happen anyway :(
Did they still charge ? and wants the going rate per hour ?

Jonno

bobterry - December 12, 2006 07:51 AM (GMT)
No they did not charge, but they will do when I take it back, which is fair enough. They charge £82.00 for the hour. And I agree it was most likely something that would have happened anyway. Having said that I don't think I've had it as high as 5300rpm  at which it was producing 83bhp thats about the point the gearbox and clutch went into self distruct mode. Its all nearly sorted now though, so should be back on the rolling road again. This time hopefully without exploding parts.

bobterry - January 13, 2007 12:28 PM (GMT)
Well the new gearbox, clutch etc fitted and the car back on the road. It really is a dream to drive now!! :D

jonno - January 13, 2007 01:05 PM (GMT)
Wahoo good to hear its going again, so has it been back on the rollers yet ;)

bobterry - January 13, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
No not yet, while the weather is crap I'm getting a few bits fitted. Wiper system and washer bottle etc and immobiliser :ph43r: plus the hood once I work out what to do for the anti sag bar.

Then I'll try and get it back down the rolling road. Hopefully this time to get the results without things flying off. ;)

Thought I replied regarding the bar - apparently not though - Basically they are all the same. so any bar off any of the Dutton Melos B malaga B+ S1234 will do.

Otherwise is a piece of pudding to make one - They are the same width as the connections on the on the rollbar and match up with the pleat in the hood for length. The bar diameter, material is 1/2" 16swg tube - bend radius is about 2-2 1/2" I could measure one up if you like - I would imagine you could bend up up with a plumbers pipe bender for 15mm copper.

Cheer's Andy, it was really how far forwards from the anti roll bar I was after. So will work out from the pleat in the hood for that part. Will most likely be made from 18swg stainless steel tube as we have metres of the stuff around at work. Will give me a chance to try out the new pipe benders at work.

Andy S - January 18, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)

From the best one I have.

3ft overall Width

16.5" overall Depth

Heights vary from 3.5- 4.25"

Bend radius (tube centre line) on the nicest one I have is about 2.0"

so would be 2" straight then a 2" radius bend 12.5" straight 2" radius bend - 32" straight 2" bend 12.5 straight 2" bend 2" straight or something like that.

Cheers

Andrew

Cheers once again andy, I will have a go in copper pipe as you suggested first ;) then go for the stainless steel once it fits correctly.
