Hi,
I have recently got my hands on a Phaeton s1.
The Fibre glas pannels are pop riveted together and pop riveted/bolted to the chassis.
Is this normal.?
I have a Pheaton/Melos build manual but it doesnt seem to cover this for an S1 which has different pannels.
I also have the fuel filler in the boot.
this doesnt seem particularly sensible to me, but the car has been registered and Mot'ed so its presumably been like this for a while.
any help/hints/tips would be most welcome.

Yes, thats quite normal. :o Its not a spaceframe chassis is a bit of a cross between a perimiter and ladder - the body panels are unstressed and just "hang" on to the chassis.
There is a Build manual for the S1 available on the Dutton owners club site but its very very basic.
By this time most Duttons have been built and sebsequently rebuilt at least once so there is no gaurantee what has been done and if the original builder actually followed the manual.
Fuel filler in the boot is nothing - with the long hardtop you remove the bootlid - and guess what - the fuel tank is then inside car with you :o
However I would advise fitting an external filler - a spill in the boot could soon lead to an exposive mixture forming and Kit car electrics being what they are
I fitted an "Aero" style filler to the top of the car wing drivers side and although very modern does not look out of place - The lemans /spitfire flip type caps also look pretty good.
S1's are good cars with plenty of potential for modification.
Cheers
Andrew
Many thanks
I guess its a case of "welcome to the world of DIY auto bombs " ;)
