Title: S3 brakes
Description: What are they?

ecotack - March 14, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
I'm going to service my front brakes and I'd like to improve them. Probably the easiest way would be to use a decent set of disks and pads. My search came up with the EBC turbo groove disks and Kevlar pads.

Anyone tried these? Other recommendations?

Now I assume my S3 is built as it should be and the front is Triumph (different wheel centres to rear), so I presuming the callipers are off a Herald, but is it an early or late Herald? How do I know for sure?

I don't know if you can tell off the image below, but it may help:

Interesting - well the front end is Ford - could be Escort or Capri and could be MK1 or Mk2 - the only way to tell is by the height of the stub on the upright - and the diameter of the disc.

Now why your rear axle should be a different PCD is interesting - could be that the back end is from the Truimph/Marina/MGB camp only a measurement of the actual PCD will tell what it may be.

An easy hi-performance upgrade is to go to Capri vented discs and spaced M16 calipers the next step is to fit the 4 pot replacement alloy M16's that are available now.

Pads, well any decent quality pad will do the trick if the brakes are up to scratch.

Cheers

Andrew

Thanks,

The previous owner told me the front was Triumph and back Ford, but I just measured them and they are the same.

I’ll look into the Capri brakes. For now I’ll take a pad off to Halfords and get them to search for what it’s off, it will be worth the price of a cheap set of pads just to know that. It shouldn’t be too hard now I know its Ford.

Regards,
Andrew.
