Here you buy armor to protect the shoulders. You may only equip armor up to the weight class that your character can wear. Rangers, for example, may wear up to medium armor and so may purchase medium weight shoulder armor, but not shoulder armor of a heavy weight class. Only one piece of shoulder armor may be worn at a time; it is not permitted to wear both a medium and heavy shoulder armor simultaneously. Two pieces of armor from the same weight class may not be worn at the same time.

Generally speaking, the heavier the armor, the better it protects the wearer. So medium weight class armors may make movement slightly more difficult, and heavy class armors will moderately slow down the wearer, but offer great protection. However, while heavy armor will easily withstand most slashing attacks, blunt attacks, as from a mace or war hammer, will still deal moderate damage. This is due to their actually being designed to penetrate the defenses of heavily armored troops. Also keep in mind that a solid hit from a blunt attack will dent the armor, possibly crushing whatever soft flesh and bone is encased therein. Have fun!



Medium Shoulder Armor

Lvl 6 - Leather Shoulder Guard – 3,500

• Two layers of beaten leather worn over each shoulder. Fastened together with straps, or simply sewn or riveted to the armor underneath. Doesn’t really hinder movement.

Lvl 8 - Metal Shoulder Guard – 4,500

• A metal guard worn over each shoulder. Protects well against slashing attacks from the top and sides, and moderately well against blunt attacks from the same angle. Fastened together with straps or riveted to the armor underneath. Doesn’t really hinder movement, but not as stealthy as a leather shoulder guard.

Heavy Shoulder Armor

Lvl 18 – Pauldrons – 10,000

• A large metal shoulder guard, wraps over the front and back of the shoulder, fully covering any weak points. Generally fastened together with straps or is attached to lighter armor worn underneath heavy body armor; direct attachment to the outer body armor would preclude movement. As is, does make movement a bit difficult but offers great protection.
