Title: Town of the Cards
Description: Your main source for quest news.
KamiKazeKiwi3 - November 22, 2004 06:08 AM (GMT)
Town of the CardsI decided to create this thread since I would like to give the other clans a place to check up on. I know it isn't normal for them to swim through the Swordbreakers' main thread in search of news for Town of the Cards. This should make it easier to find the necessary information and to subscribe to just one thread.
Find the map for the town
here.
Remember that battles will follow the rules of dueling. There will only be two actions allowed per post. Please check up on the dueling guidelines if you're not familiar with what constitutes an action in a duel. Your SP will regenerate at a rate of one point at the end of every post while you are in battle. Outside, the rate is quicker and you can sit around to allow it to replenish.
Now, for a correction that I want everyone to be aware of. I made a mistake as I took into account damages and attacks against the crystal monster. Take note that the monster currently has no damage done to it. I forgot to raise the health for the Repth Crystal back to 1500 HP. The reason it said 1308 HP is because I was noting how much damage Asura did. It would have been more if the attack from Senna has been counted. However,
all damage was healed. Good luck.

I'm going to announce this here in case someone doesn't receive the message. Anyone who hasn't posted in this attack round for the TotC has a 2-day deadline. I'm posting the next monster move on January 1st. People failing to post aren't helping themselves or the team by lowering the amount of damage or plain hits dealt to the enemy. It's important that people post. I'm no longer going to wait weeks for a few of the higher levels to get in motion. Note that the boss does and will kill people. Inactive players make it easier for everyone to die.
The story is not set in stone. It can end up with everyone being wiped out, or it can end as players shape it.

If you haven't read the latest quest post, do so. Otherwise the following might dent a surprise.
The last post took longer than expected because of the final Merrows Ch description. As I told Senna, I wasn't satisfied with the initial outcome of the post. I had to properly convey the sense of a person being seconds away from overkill. Sorry for taking longer than I said I would. Now to get some constant progress from the quest and hopefully improve our lives. The Crimson Kotetsu tournament is coming up soon, perhaps a month away to give competitors time to go through quests. I'm going to enstate a 4-day limit on posting. Every time the limit comes around the monster will move. The limit will automatically expire each time 5 players post as well. Others can post before the monster post is up but I will try to continue moving each time either condition is met. That means people will be able to write more often.
FXOmniCrest - January 4, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
Just a question... Are we able to see what's happening with the new thing that's coming up? The big, probably bad, flaming whatever summon whatchamacallit? Because I have no idea how to post up with the new monster move <_<
Can you just clarify what it is?
KamiKazeKiwi3 - January 4, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
I don't understand what you're asking exactly. I'm guessing you mean if you can see Vulcan Ch (the fire summon spell) being casted and/or the monster that is inside of it. Please remember that I specifically pointed out the party is not within its range this time around. Last time, Merrows Ch wreacked unintended havoc. The explosion and fire can be seen, as well as the spell circle before it actually goes off. Its target, too. However, the monster inside of it is covered in the fire this time around. I couldn't decide on what to place as the summon, so I covered it for this shot. If it's fired again, it'll probably be revealed.

A quick note to congratulate the TotC party for managing to post enough in 24 hours to turn a whole round. ^_^ Since I'm in the mood to try to move swiftly and you're meeting the challenge, it's all good. As said in various IMs, part one should be ending soon.
KamiKazeKiwi3 - April 13, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
Please do not post in the Town of the Cards thread.
Technically, only two or three people have a reason to post there now. The rest have exhausted their turn. There is a problem with the thread that I need to get resolved before I can reply to it safely. It's not showing up Hacorie's latest post and that could be a bit risky, as it could be a sign of some sort of corruption. You can still see it in the print mode and while replying, though, so it's not lost. Until the InvisionFree administrators are able to tend to the issue, please avoid posting.
Senna - April 26, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
At the risk of bringing down the wrath of the gods  would it be possible to start a TotC thread 2 and continue? I know we can't mess with the currently hiccup-y thread, but I want to know what happens next. *hops*
FXOmniCrest - April 27, 2005 01:07 AM (GMT)
AHhhh!!! Can't hacorie just copy and paste the post, and post again, then when the admins fix it, delete one of the two posts? That way we can continue without much hiatus due to the unwillingness or inability of the invisionfree people to fix it <_<
I ain't insulting you guys (to invisionfree people), BUT LETS GET A MOVE ON!!! (to divvy people)
FXOmniCrest - June 9, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
OKAY! Real question time...
Because I'm kind of unable to post anything but just recaps and thoughts, I'm not really sure what to do. What do us engines that have yet to be re-re-re-freed do?

I'd guess you just don't do anything *shrugs*
KamiKazeKiwi3 - June 12, 2005 05:52 PM (GMT)
I believe FireX can become uncharmed at some point, since that's natural anyways. I'll check it out when thinking about the next post. Don't think I'm trying to waste your time again and just sitting around. I've been trying to get Asura to post because of a certain something. The party is in danger of dying out if he doesn't do something but all I can get are uncertain promises about posting that don't seem to come true. Frankly, I want some certainty, from him and from Curia.
Senna - June 20, 2005 02:12 PM (GMT)
Hehehehe. Maybe if we screwed up that bad, we all deserve to just die off :)
CuRiA - July 13, 2005 02:21 PM (GMT)
Certainty is assured by Curia. I'm settled from the move, and ready to go.
Anyone have any ideas for tactics? High level spells and summons get cancelled out. Status effects maybe?
Either way, I have something to test, next post.
~Curia
Senna - July 15, 2005 02:07 AM (GMT)
I have no ideas, but if you need someone on the inside, so to speak, to work with I'm open to suggestions.
lugiablaster - July 15, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
Weapon skills. That's one of the few things that I've seen that haven't been able to get negated. The elemental part might get negated by some random opposite spell, but if they(the crystals) are focused on putting out the weapon skill's element, then they should have some trouble dodging the weapon itself. Just a thought.
Senna - July 17, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
With weapon skills though, the plates just slide apart and let the cuts go through so they don't take damage. *ponders*
Wonder if we could run it into a wall *laughs*
lugiablaster - July 18, 2005 01:01 AM (GMT)
*points to one of his most current posts*
That's why I wanted four people to try and attack the thing at once. It can't dodge us all, unless it wants to leave a really big hole or bump into eachother, creating damage(?)...
KamiKazeKiwi3 - July 20, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
Cautionary warning: That's one of the things you don't want to be hearing from me. There will be about three days to post from this moment. If there are no posts at the end of the time period, I'll start displaying the sphere's offensive capabilities. So far, it hasn't actually injured anyone, but that's just because possessing engines is better than killing them.
The boss can be defeated by any member of the party. The matter rests on being able to determine its weakness. Someone exploited it once in recent posts. It's rather obvious. As far as I know, you're all very capable writers and thinkers who should be able to get this done on your own strength. It's do or die now.
Additionally, Elius, Hacorie, and Asura can post in this thread for the time being.

Seems I didn't have to kill anyone after all.
Town of the Cards has officially come to a close for its first day. I'll wirte out the general points to watch for here to ensure that everyone knows what's going on exactly. I've only been able to meet with some over chats.
The first day has ended. The surviving party will be rewarded as soon as Rayo returns from his trip and reads the PM stating who gets rewards. He asked me to list the people so he wouldn't have to consider the players who left and went on with their lives.
The fortunate ones that have remained get their rewards soon. In character, the rewards will be items dropped by Chaos Theory or blown out of the Clock Shop. The levels will come from having faced the monster. Time in the town moves at the standard real world pace. To clarify, sleeping at the inn isn't an instant screen-off screen-on event as with most games. Time flows in the town. The players behind the characters in the game would have to leave their games running and trust that no one would kill them in the inn. It's safe and it's free. =p
In addition, everyone will be healed. Don't wonder too much about Asura if you don't know already. All the details and happenings will be covered in The Second Day. Sophie will meet with the players a moment to explain some new town happenings and report on what conclusions she was able to reach about the incidents in the first part. Whether her reasoning is the truth or not, we'll eventually discover.
You'll be able to shop in the town to restock on missing items. Exitting the field remains impossible except by disconnecting. Being terminated without exitting properly means all rewards gained so far are forfeited. It's a grim reality that you'll lose your progress if you're forced to disconnect, and that's the only way to leave for now. Death itself will not cause a problem as long as the player is revived and continues.
Remember that your rewards do not count outside the story yet. Unlike normal stories, this thread is a continuation within the same field and no one was able to exit and save. The chance of a forfeit means your in-story stats are isolated to only the story for now. You will remain the same level on the board for duels, events, and most anything else. Items from rewards also suffer from this. The items you buy will not disappear, however, because the money loss is permanent too. Your signature will probably have to list which items you gained and what your in-story and out-of-story levels are.
Example:
Slicer
In-Quest: 12
Out-Quest: 10
Rewards: Spiderblade
Please note that as far as I know, those who reach level 10 can post in the registration section. That's not going to be isolated, but have your two levels in your signature so a moderator recognizes you're safe to post there.
Finally, I had to think for a while concerning the size of the party. I didn't want to oversize it nor undersize it for the coming segments. The party's current size is of about 4 to 7, the range due to some being able to post more easily than others. The Second Day may require that the party splits up. Whether that happens or not is a decision of the characters; I won't impose a split. Three players have been invited to come along: Cypher, Ichida, and Sydofh. Cypher accepted and is sort of pending our final decision. Ichida seems willing but I haven't followed up on him. Sydofh is still considering the offer due to his clan responsibilities.
Discussions have been going on about continuing the story separately from this board, for now, until Rayo can finish grading. Then the story posts would be passed over to Divergence. Contact me personally for more information on this. It would help us get moving and solving the mysteries that haunt the party.
FXOmniCrest - August 8, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
Woah woah woah... So then... what happens to me? A simple player who had been absent for a loooonnnggg time due to a trip. Do I forfeit my items if I gain any at all?
KamiKazeKiwi3 - August 8, 2005 05:53 PM (GMT)
You're in the rewards list too. You should go back to what you last read and see what happened in the quest. It's important you see some things there.
FXOmniCrest - August 10, 2005 06:09 PM (GMT)
One question: About how long until Day 2?
Also, I thought Ichida said that he was lurking more often these days than not <_< Oh well, I missed Crimson Rose assending to mod-hood, so, well, what else could I have missed?
FXOmniCrest - August 11, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Okay, I have a second question, and I think it requires a bump: If we quickly do another quest, and come back for Day 2, even though it is technically the same quest, are we not allowed to re-enter the quest?
KamiKazeKiwi3 - August 12, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
*comes back from a power outage*
That's impossible simply because it doesn't make sense. Currently, you can't leave the field without losing what you gained. That's because no one can leave normally. The only two ways of leaving are disconnecting or dying and not being resurrected. Even if you did leave and lose what you gained, I don't think Rayo would like anyone going back. The rules are already a bit twisted on this one.
FXOmniCrest - August 12, 2005 03:06 PM (GMT)
That still leaves the veritable question number one unanswered :(
How long until the next quest, or what is the expected date to start if you don't get final answers from the three people that might enter the mission?
KamiKazeKiwi3 - August 12, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
It was supposed to start two days ago. I've simply been unable to write considering there's a power outage here almost every single day now. I'm getting it done, don't worry. We're not waiting on our entry candidates. Two of them have responded (one yes and one no) and two of them are still pending, though willing.
Oh. Just so the party knows, there's candy at the Trade Center.
lugiablaster - February 16, 2008 09:23 AM (GMT)
So, like, where's the post?
