Hope someone replies soon…

Giving rest to his fretless keyboard typing, Jon pushed himself up and away from his desk and. He sat on a month old roller chair, the type fancy offices were sporting. He had gotten it as a gift from his uncle. Remembering his exact words, “aster the computers ‘cause they are the future son!”, he smiled and leaned back.

Good old Uncle Jack…

His uncle worked in the technical industry, his companies HQ’s based in Austin, Texas. Being a native Texan himself, the new employment was the perfect opportunity to both get a good job, and stay close to where his heart truly belonged: a little dusty tumble-weed-infested place called home. Although Jon expected something a little more fancy like the latest Video Cards, or some far out new peripherals for his PC, he got stooped with the unpackaging the chair. From the box’s size, he expected a new computer. But a slit in the tape, plastic coverings removed and a few minutes later proved him wrong. A small wave of disappointment bathe over Jon, but hating to be the snobbish type, he plastered a fake smile and a giant “thank you!” over the phone.

The wheels on the chair made a slight creaking noise, each revolution the ball bearings inside made being slower and slower. Once away enough from any connections, Jon stood up. He felt a slight tension in his back, which was quickly relieved by a few stretches.

I’m thirsty…while I wait for a reply I could get something to drink…

The thirst quenching idea pleased his internal taste sense, spurring on his sleepy legs to the kitchen. The refrigerator door swung open rather quickly, Jon pulling the handle off in a jerky fashion.

Either I’m getting taller or this fridge is getting smaller…

Jon, standing tall at 6’2”, had now reached the point where the opening of the fridge stood up to his waist. He groaned a bit, the thought of bending over not pleasing him one bit. But, despite all efforts to not bend down, his taste buds won the battle. He executed the item fetching quickly, grabbing the first container his hand felt.

Better get a glass…

He had picked out a Kiwi Strawberry drink. It was his favorite flavor, a pleased grin appearing over his tired mug. He now turned his attention to the cupboard, the necessity for a glass growing more and more as he yearned for a drink. He kicked the fridge door shut, served himself a glass and began to drink.

*blip, blip, blip*

The blips began to chime as Jon was in mid drink. His head was tilted completely back, and the Kiwi was being sucked away. Jon had now two reasons to be joyful: his thirst had been burned down, the sweet flavors of kiwi and strawberry swimming through his throat, and he had gotten a reply from his post. Once done drinking, he slammed the cup against the counter, poured more Kiwi in rather sloppily, tossed the juice away in the fridge, and raced back to his desktop. It had been about a minute since he did anything on it, so his System of a Down screensaver floated happily along the 25 inch flat screen monitor. With a small flick of his wrist over the infra-red monitor, the screen saver de-activated, and the familiar BBS layout came about.

Let’s see what they said…

Message: Chosen Hopeless Nothingness on Theta Server. Friend said he found it there. Careful though, it’s level 28.

I should reply…

Message: Thank you. I will look into now.

Now…let’s log on…

Jon would now become Cypher, a level 24 Blademaster in search of new gear. He was only a headset and armset equip away from immersing himself in one of the world’s most controversial, and perhaps most famous, games of all time. Before he would equip himself further, Jon felt the need for one more swig of juice. In a long, one-drink attempt, Jon gulped down the reddish sweet drink. His out of control manner of drinking could be observed by the small trickles of juicy liquid pouring smoothly out of his lips and across his cheeks. Once done, he fixed the small mess with a quick wipe of his sleeve.

Now…let’s get started…

The VR gloves and headset were strapped on with haste. This was intended to be a quick quest for he had more pressing issues to attend in an hour’s time. He resolved himself to not fight field enemies, and instead make a mad dash over to the dungeon. While the initial seemed hard to do, not only due to his 4 level’s less, but more towards the craving he had for gaining experience, he would overcome all temptation and head on home.

Let’s see…Outkast would be good…

Jon popped in Outkast’s old CD which included classics like “Hey Ya!” and “Roses”, songs which paved the way for the new rap-rave-fusion-dance genre of today. He had intended to make the quest short, and what better way than to do it with some style? The hop hopping tracks played in his ear immediately called Jon to dance, and soon he would.

Logging into Highland City, Theta Server.
Please wait…

As the initial track met its halfway point, Cypher came to life. The three familiar golden rings that reigned all servers introduced Cypher in. Gusts if strong winds met Cypher’s face, blowing dust particles and other sediment rocks over his clothes. Still, as quickly as he logged in, he would soon warp on.

“Chosen Hopeless Nothingness”

The three introductory rings that had showed him in earlier switch rolls. They not took charge of Cypher’s transportation, moving him up towards his desired selection. Within a few seconds he had made it to Chosen Hopeless Nothingness. The field was chock full of yellow swirling rings, the portals bearing similarity to those of the root town. Once the rings had completely returned Cypher, they whirled away. Cypher, a red jacketed with rolled up sleeves and black booted blademaster, observed the field once more, then spoke.

“Ap Do”

The speed gift brought a tremendous velocity increase from Cypher’s normal capacities. Power surged through Cypher’s body, pumping his entire system up. His breath now came off doubled, each huff and puff cut short by the beginning of the next one. His normal looks now transformed to darting eyes, and without anymore hesitation, a sprint ensued.

Let’s go!!!

Like the famous Michal Johnson, Cypher exploded from his original position. Each step down made his foot dig into the ground and kickoff. Each kickoff spurred him forward, increasing his velocity step by step. He soon saw only blurs of real images, the clarity draining due to his insane speeds. A few times he did noticed yellow blotches move around then disappear, only to be replaced with brown, silver and black ones.

Those are a lot of portals opened…better hurry!

The dungeon’s entrance, or what he made out to be the dungeon, was not far off from his position. His race had shortened travel time by a lot, and that was good in terms of his schedule. Within moments, Cypher reached the dungeon entrance. Feeling his speed enhancement begin to drain away, he executed a small nose dive just in case he was being chased.

“Ahhh!!!”

Black filled his eyes for a moment. He saw nothing, yet felt medium levels of heat under his belly. Once his vision returned to normal however, a new ambiance could be seen.

I landed inside the dungeon…

With a groan Cypher pushed himself up. His run was so fast that the momentum his body was under made him screech all the way to the middle of the room. Small black skid marks appeared where his bots had drug, adding even more to the speed realization.

“That was…fast…”

He brushed himself off a bit assuring he has not incurred any damage due to the slide. Once assured of his health, he made his way on through the dungeon.

I better make sure I’m in Ap Do and Ap Corv…the strength enhancement will be most definitely needed. It might not even the odds, but the chances of dying will be much less. My Miu Lei will also be needed. If I can have an enemy join my ranks, my rate of survival will skyrocket.

Cypher thought of all this as he penetrated the dimly lit room. There were no signs of portals, and the next step to his adventure was a few yards away.

“Ap Do Ap Corv”

This time, the power which his body received was double. Not only did he acquire the speed of a jaguar, but he achieved the strength of a lion also. He was strong, fast, cunning, smart…and deadly. He would prey on the enemies silently, picking each of one by one until he obtained what he wanted.

The Seal Sword.

He braced himself for what would lie on the other side of the door. If it be an enemy, then valiantly he would take it down. The door creaked open, and each creak made his heart skip a beat. The famed butterflies had now made his way into Cypher, fluttering around his stomach. He felt the anxiety…he felt the rush…

He felt good.

The small pushing he was doing ended with a violent shove. Similar to that of the refrigerator door, the dungeon door slammed open, emitting a large “bang!” all over the room. Cypher at once entered, and with is mouth open, yelled out.

“I’m here! All you suckers come out and let’s dance!!!”

This room was in fact a long thin hall. It had only one portal, and it was dabbed in the middle. With a smile, Cypher stepped forward slightly, allowing maximum distance while still activating the portal. Before the monster’s were fully fleshed out into visible data, he extended his right hand up and began to speak.

“Miu-“

He held the charm spell in his hand, waiting for some indication to shoot it off. The results of the portal were Cursed Blades and one Metal Goblin. Due to the thinness of the hall, no movement for flanking purposes could be executed. This would force Cypher to use his charm strategy.

It seems the gobbling is behind. If I charm him, I can slice away at the Blades when it try’s to defend itself from the goblin…the blades will be killed quickly, but killing the goblin will be testy. After a blow it will return back to normal…

“-Lei!!!”

After a few seconds of thinking and monster appearance, Cypher let go the charm spell. The intended target was the goblin, and without much difficulty it got charmed. Its body turned a small yellow hue, glowing then subsiding slightly. Without wasting anytime, it began to chop away at the blades. Whiting seconds the blades were toast, dying a rather comical death at the hands of its alleys.

“Now to kill you…”

The charmed goblin stood erect, starring blankly ahead. At the moment there were no enemies, leaving its command prompt empty. Cypher, knowing the charm time would run out soon, made his way quickly to the fiend’s back. He raised his Reliance, placing it in a stinger position, and thrusted it into the monster’s back.

“AGHHHHHH!!!”

The foul creature let out an equally foul and painful cry. Cypher continued to thrust the sword in, but the metal covering proved skin penetration to be a difficult task. The only thing that saved Cypher from a sure death was the back attack. The goblin, pinned down to its back, tried desperate freedom techniques. He took a few wide swings left and right, his lower body staying fixed while he rotates the upper half. He did succeed in making Cypher dodge desperately, but once his sword had exited the body, it was ready for another slash. This time, Cypher skipped once back and jumped forward.

One horizontal slash and he’s history…

He did as he thought, taking a wide slash straight at its belly. The slash, although not strong enough to be fatal, knocked it down straight on its back. This proved to be a rather painful experience for the goblin, unless it let out screams of agony all the time. Dark red pools of blood began to form underneath the fiend, enlarging by the second.

All I have to do now is jump on his belly and stab him to death…

Cypher executed a long jump, using the Ap Do to gather speed and momentum, and the Ap Corv for that extra kick off the ground. Soon, Cypher was on top of the goblin, slicing away at its life until it was no more. Beads of sweet rolled down Cypher’s forehead, the battle he just partook in being a major stress out. His entire body was also sweaty, his coat and shirt being moist with perspiration. It seemed Cypher needed to be more careful.

Let’s move on…

The next door revealed a set of stairs down, giving access to the second floor. The initial reception room was empty, so Cypher zoomed on to the next one. Inside was yet another room, this time 2 portals revolving. Wasting not time whatsoever, Cypher activated both simultaneously.

Wow….this is going to be fun…

Three fully erect metal goblins stood, along with two mantis.

“Great…Miu Lei Miu Lei!!!”

The targets had been two of the goblins, leaving the mantis and third gobbling to fend for themselves. The combined power of the two goblin was more than enough to wipe out the remaining mantis, leaving only a single goblin uncharmed. As this happened, the uncharmed goblin took a free shot to a charmed goblins’ back, relieving it of it’s “outside influence”. The lone charmed gobbling stood no chance whatsoever in lasting alive, and died a quick painful death.

“Miu Lei”

God…my SP is almost out…

With only a few SP points left, Cypher prayed the Miu Lei’ed foe would be of some aid. Cypher repeated the tactic from the room before, taking out the subjects back while the intended target got confused. Soon enough, the Goblin died. It all seemed so good, but just as the goblin took its last breath, it hit the charmed remaining fiend, removing it from the Miu Lei. Now Cypher had a problem.

Oh no…it’s going to be hard to take out this goblin by myself…no help from the fiends means he could kill me quickly…wait a minute. He is metallic, meaning he has a little higher defense. But for that boosted vitality, his maneuvering must be shot. All that metal must really interfere with his actions…hit and dodge!

As soon as he thought of “hit and dodge”, Cypher sprung to life. No longer was he down due to the fact he could be wiped out without a problem. He now felt alive; he felt like the lion he envisioned earlier.

“Grrr….”

Growling in a lion like way, Cypher ran towards the goblin at full speed. He would slash at the monster’s side, leaving a wide open gash, and then dodge. This strategy would be continued until he monster died, which Cypher calculated to not be long, mostly due to the fact it was already low on health.

“Die!!!”

Cypher executed a total of 3 hit and runs, the first two resulting in him being unscathed, and the third giving him a medium gash in his shoulder area. His HP now stood at 1/3. After a few seconds of wait, Cypher spoke up.

“Repth”

His wounds were partially healed, giving him some energy to go further. For the next 2 rooms, Cypher encountered the same enemies, and not wanting to risk anything, followed the same pattern. Soon he found himself in the Gott Room, all worn out and hurt, but with the treasure. As he stood before the chest, eagerness filled him.

Would the Seal Sword be there?

“Hope that guy on the BBS was right…”
