Title: What Gott means
Description: for those who don't know

Nikkio2003 - May 31, 2003 11:07 PM (GMT)
I think..there are german things, because a German man made THE WORLD. ..Right?

by the way..
..what ARE those floating strange people roatating above the feilds, and what are they for-or supposed to mean?..They're just a bit..ominous, don't you think?

Vash - May 31, 2003 02:34 AM (GMT)
Did anyone know that Gott, in German, means God? It can also be used as part of a name, such as Gotthold. Hold meaning lovely....
Anyway I thought that was interesting. I'm sure a lot of people have been wondering where the name came from and/or what it meant. =/

Vash - June 1, 2003 09:45 PM (GMT)
My reason is Nikkio's.
The creator of The World, Harold...I can't remember his last namem is German. That's what I think it is.

Terror - May 31, 2003 05:10 AM (GMT)
Maybe alot of game suse German words....

You know to not...change the topic thing but Xenosaga's episode 1's title...I think its German...

But nevermind that..I don't want to change the topic now...I think Zeit's German too...

...Maybe the items are..the God's gift for completing his/her dungeon..lol...Like for eaching to them they give some items...

Oh and I looked at a German dictory for Zeit...and it has to do with Time...Alot of things with time...Like..here are some examples..

ENGLISH GERMAN

by-and-by mit der Zeit
hours pl. die Zeit
period die Zeit
temporal Zeit-
terms pl. die Zeit
tide die Zeit
time die Zeit
while die Zeit

There are verbs..and phares for Zeit aswell...But I won't post them...The meaning of Zeit

Angelus - May 31, 2003 05:06 AM (GMT)
If Gott = god,
What does Ziet = ?

And why is it me, or is a lot of the Dot Hack speech in German (ex. opening movie of #1 and Gott)

Angelus - May 31, 2003 03:43 PM (GMT)
I kept thinking Zeit meant something like Time...since I can only find Zeit statues in "Chronicling" keywords, and I'm always timed....

Lyra - June 1, 2003 04:43 AM (GMT)
I think the other reason is that Japan and Germany have a lot to do with one another, so they're connected a lot... Plus German is such a fun language, it all sounds so weird

Mayko - May 31, 2003 02:36 AM (GMT)
that is... that's very interesting :)

Kodel - May 31, 2003 04:59 AM (GMT)
I wonder if they did that intentionally, or if its just a very weird coincidence. Those statues in the Gott treasure rooms do kinda look like idols don't they.... theres a creepy thought... What if we're stealing offerings to the God of the World? :P

shades - May 31, 2003 01:10 PM (GMT)
. I'm pretty sure Zeit statues are named from the German zeitgeist, roughly the spirit or ghost of time. Thus, they are like minor gods of the World compared to the gotts, which give out treasure, and instead hold the real reward if you get to them in time, hence the naming. This may or may not be part of some deeper mystery.

(OOC: just FYI, I believe most of the German references are due to the fact that Yoshiyuki Sadamoto was involved in character art and development for the .Hack project; if you look through NeonGenesis: Evangelion (which Sadamoto also worked on) you will also find a number of German references, of similar nature.)

shades - May 31, 2003 11:45 PM (GMT)
They never come down; they seem to be ... watching? Perhaps a rare item will allow players to reach them?

(OOC: Right on, Rai-Dei! Sadamoto is definitely one of the top animators and designers; I love the way that he shows expression on his characters so believably. Who agrees? Show of hands.)

shades - June 1, 2003 10:39 PM (GMT)
I'm curious, where have you heard about the creator of the world, and how much do you know? I've been involved with the world in one way or another for a time, but never found much on the guy. Of course there's the new reports about him being some eccentric genius who strangely disappeared, but they don't really tell anyone more than that.

Rai-Dei - May 31, 2003 04:27 AM (GMT)
Ah, I've been wondering about that alittle myself. Thanks for filling us in!

Rai-Dei - May 31, 2003 07:18 PM (GMT)
I would have to agree with shades...Sadamoto implemented several german things into Evangelion, such as Asuka speaking random German...And now German themes in .hack...I wonder why he likes German so much though?

(Yoshiyuki Sadamoto is the best character designer ever...sorry I had to slip that in. :D )

Areku - May 31, 2003 05:01 PM (GMT)
Actually Zeit means number.

KamiKazeKiwi3 - May 31, 2003 11:14 PM (GMT)
Abstract art?

Anrui - June 7, 2003 06:02 PM (GMT)
<_< Nobody's "targetting" Germany...

System Slayer - May 31, 2003 05:49 AM (GMT)
Maybe Gott is the Japanese trying to mispell 'gut' on purpose. It's always at the end of the dungeon and it's a creative alternative to center or core.

System Slayer - May 31, 2003 05:39 PM (GMT)
We all have our little ways for reasoning the definition of Gott and Zeit. (DUDE Chronicling thing is example)

Kaisamyuu - June 1, 2003 03:25 AM (GMT)
I've been wondering about the fields themselves. Everything seems to look as if there were natives in The WORLD. Do you think the creators took references from something of that nature? All the wierd statues and things seem a bit strange.

Kaisamyuu - June 1, 2003 11:32 PM (GMT)
If you would all remember when Japan and Germany where allies during the war. Maybe that's got something to do with it.

Litter - June 2, 2003 04:38 AM (GMT)
Or maybe their just tring to step back from the norm..you know, make a name for yourself.

Seth - June 7, 2003 05:38 PM (GMT)
I agree with Litter. Maybe they were trying to give everyone a nice shock from the usual and throw in some German, rather than using all Japanese. It seems reasonable enough.

Darkness - June 7, 2003 05:42 PM (GMT)
grrr why is germany such a target go target spain or italy but leave germany alone!!!!!
