Title: Are monsters getting smarter?
Description: Seems like strategy

Kasano Rookoni - December 17, 2003 04:35 AM (GMT)
Well to me seems The World get's more and more intresting, I'll be sure to put this strategic monster info to good use during my first battle!...I haven't fought once yet :(

( Exerpt from Ichida's solo quest to: /\ Bursting Passed Over Paradise [http://invisionfree.com/forums/DIVERGENCE/...?showtopic=3348] )

QUOTE
After running across the hallway to the next room, Ichida tensed and went into his battle pose as a nearby portal imploded, revealing two Disco Knives.

"BATTLE MODE ON"

They began to circle Ichida, forming some kind of strategy. "What?" pondered Jino, as he began circling his controller's directional pad to keep a constant eye on the enemies. "Looks like these monsters have some sort of group strategy or something. That's not right..." Waiting, Ichida noticed that one Disco Knife was moving faster than the other, and knew that they would be beside each other soon, meaning that he could attack both of them at the same time if planned right. The two monsters' radius of movement slowly shrank, as they began zeroing in on him. They had not gotten close enough for Ichida to strike, so he took some damage. Soon, a spark ran thorugh Jino's mind; the two Disco Knives were near contact, and he punched Gan Zot from the Skills/Magic Menu. "Take this, fools! Gan Zot!" cried Ichida as he twirled his twin blades around, raising the very ground from beneath the two monsters, as they were weakened greatly. They were brought down to a small amount of HP, and Ichida had no trouble finishing each one off with a swipe of his weapon, as the many airborne swords fell to the ground in ashes.

"BATTLE MODE OFF"

Ichida wore a large grin as he continued to the end of the room and through the doorway. "So much for your strategy..."

As you can see, these two monsters apeared to be strategizing some sort of combination attack; zeroing in one me from all sides. Luckily I was able to defeat them, but I'm wondering: Are the monsters' intelligence developing? If so, is it due to system upgrades, or...something else?

Yeah, it looks like CC Corp. has added some stuff into 'The World'. People must have been getting tired of easy fights so an upgrade was necassary. Looks like I'll have to start thinking more on some better strategies to defeat monsters from now on.

Shadow_Ryu - November 10, 2003 12:37 AM (GMT)
Wha? I guess this means trouble for me. I just randomly attack enemies ferociously. Heh heh heh.

Ah... feels so good to say that again. At the same time, its a horrible feeling.

This is my first warnin' for ya Ichida. Mostly since you're new and all. The BBS is a text only system. No images. No holograms. Etc. You can describe how the fight went, but no actions. Got that?

Good.

Ichida - November 10, 2003 09:27 PM (GMT)
OOC: Sorry ^^; I edited it out.

Raio Drain - November 10, 2003 09:39 PM (GMT)
I have also been in a case where a swordsmanoid used a disco knife like a weapon!

Stryker - November 11, 2003 03:15 AM (GMT)
That happened to me, too.

Neo - November 11, 2003 05:08 AM (GMT)
I came across an oddly intelligent monster myself on my last quest. It was a Mummy Ripper... but it wasn't supposed to be in the field I was currently in... plus it had these odd green spots covering it's body. The spots were removed by some NPC though. It was very... intriguing.

Zane - November 25, 2003 01:48 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't know, i've only fought a few monsters, but I can assure you, Goblins and Heavy Metals aren't the smartest creatures out there.

retnuhytnuob - November 25, 2003 07:11 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't be so sure about that...
I saw a group of Magical Goblins huddling together defensively as if it were a family unit.
I've also fought against a swordmanoid that bested me while at level 6 with his method of fighting, then left without killing me. (probably has something to do with my sparing him earlier on, but...)

As for getting smarter... the ones I've met are quite better than other AI I've seen from different games, but I havn't noticed them getting more intelligent except in a few cases.

Surge Kildre - November 29, 2003 07:03 AM (GMT)
Ret is right... Goblins are more intelligent than some give them credit for. Regardless, as far as monsters go overall, goblins certainly are one of the most dense.

I'm not sure whether this has happened with anyone else, but...

Has anyone ever had one of the witches talk to you? I found an ice witch in the bottom floor of a Lv. 2 Water dungeon. When I pinned her to a wall with my spear, she hadn't died yet... and she asked for me to kill her. It's an experience I'd rather not repeat... Am I going insane or has this happened to anyone else?

kashiru - November 29, 2003 02:37 PM (GMT)
*stands in a large crowd of people and raises hand and says in a little voice*"me!"*then all the people around him step away*"hey what ws that for!!!!!"

Gojira - November 29, 2003 10:15 PM (GMT)
(OOC: ph34r he who headshots OOC with Asgard's Railgun.

Kashiru, you are on the BBS. Not in the world. You might have written that post thinking it was ok, but it's basically more action then it is just talking. Take a look at what Asura wrote:

"The BBS is a text only system. No images. No holograms. Etc." - Asura

So remember this and you won't be seeing any more posts from Asura or I.

I also have a few questions myself, when I go to higher level areas the same monsters I would fight on a lower level place, would become much smrater, and it would even think of using different strategies, instead of doing the same one over, and over. What I am trying to get at is, do monsters get better at highr level areas.
I also went a level four area, when I ran into a level 7 monster, if I did'nt have so many in my party I would' nt have survived, but what was the cause of that.

My last strange event occured in a inbodied type dungeon, I saw some wierd moving type of moss, and I was nearly swallowed, by the ground, is that supposed to be able to happen?

Anthony - December 22, 2003 02:29 AM (GMT)
You have to admit it is good that they increased the intellegence. The game was getting kind of boring due to their "intellegence" level.

For one I am pretty happy the intellegence has raised.

Fury's End - January 2, 2004 05:38 AM (GMT)
All right!!!

Furgoh5 told me that they just ran straight at you and all you did was slash and dash.

All right! A challenge!
