Title: So how did you guys pick names for your characters
Shadow_Ryu - October 10, 2003 04:30 AM (GMT)
I chose Shadow_Ryu for my love of dragons and darkness. Mwahahaha!
Arcion - October 10, 2003 04:33 AM (GMT)
Heironeous - Third Edition D&D God of Valor
Heironeous promotes justice, valor, chivalry and honor
Those four attributes I strive to hold high, thus, I use his name for most everything now that I've found it. The only thing I don't follow his character with is weapon of choise. For the god, it's a long sword but for me close combat is deadly, thus I choose the longest range without being a mage.
Wren - October 10, 2003 04:35 AM (GMT)
Hmm... How I became known as Wren. That's a toughie, I don't even know how I came to that conclusion myself, really.
I guess I wanted a bird's name, and even though it's Ren, not Wren. Even though I'm a Blademaster, in the past on Videogames and other things, I've always been obsessed with being fast. I figure that you may not be strong, but as long as your fast, you can land more hits more often than your opponent, and thus incur the same amount of damage. I also have a weird obsession with Feathers. They're so light and airy, fluid, soft, but at the same time they don't fray or break easily, especially against the wind.
That's another thing I like, Wind. And birds fly in... you guessed it! The Wind! :D I would have used a Japanese name, but for me those had become rather cliché for me. Every time I've played a game I choose some sort of Japanese name, but I didn't want to use some silly Americanized name like "dawg" or "njd_biggie" or something like that. So I went with something kind of different. ^_^
Anyway, The "W" was added on there so 1) I wouldn't have the name of this stupid girl in an old TV Show, and 2) So I wouldn't be a "Bird". Also, I think it just looks cooler that way without being too hard to pronounce.
Oberon - October 10, 2003 02:07 AM (GMT)
I was just wondering. I have proformed as Oberon in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. That is where mine came from. Anyone else share?
Rhilla - October 10, 2003 02:13 AM (GMT)
OOC. this is more of a general discusion i think... Just saying that b/c I know He who jumps on OOCness will be here soon...
Neo - October 10, 2003 02:18 AM (GMT)
((OOC: I think this is okay for the BBS. It's one character asking other users what made them give a certain name to their characters. I could be wrong, but let's see.))
I named myself Neo since it's another word for new, which is what I was when I first entered the world. That and the fact that I really like the word Neo.
Hardishane - October 10, 2003 02:24 AM (GMT)
I got Hardishane from an old book I've read. He's the counterpart of Arthur Pendragon(King Arthur), except for the fact that he was an emperor, and he existed in an alternate universe.
Rhilla - October 10, 2003 02:25 AM (GMT)
I named my person Da Dog Demon because I like dogs and demons ^_^
Marix - October 10, 2003 02:47 AM (GMT)
My Name came from Inuyasha. Yeah I know what you're thinking "There's no Character named that in Inuyasha. What The Hell Are you Talking about?"
Well in the credits (I don't know where exactly mind you) but one of the people that helped in some ways name is Marix and that is how I came to be.
*NOTE* I was formally known as Raven by a few people.
Sojuro - October 10, 2003 03:06 AM (GMT)
I used to know this one site that has a list of every name in the world. And well, i was looking at Japanese names and my finger just happened to land on Sojuro.
Flash - October 10, 2003 03:07 AM (GMT)
Well.... if you thought that i am known as Flash because im fast, but you're kinda wrong, it was just a nickname i gave myself in video games. im not saying im slow, im just saying that im not that quick as other people. ^_^
Lyra - October 10, 2003 03:30 AM (GMT)
My name came from combining the names of my favorite characters (at the time), Lita from Sailor Moon and Sora from Digimon, to make Lira. But thats Italian money, so I changed it, so it was still pronounced the same but was spelled as the constellation Lyra ^.^
My last name used to be Kamiya, which was Tai's last name on digimon, but then I married Kamina, so I got Bardock from him *laughs*
Sojuro - October 10, 2003 03:32 AM (GMT)
Ah ha ha ha!
I actually didn't understand a word you said... ANYWAYS!
Asura - October 10, 2003 03:55 AM (GMT)
(OOC: Baka newb. Trying to steal MY job. Its mine I say! Mine! At least be right about it.
I do want to answer this question, though following my idea on how the game works, I can't post IC at this time. Has to do with not being able to access the BBS from within the World and such. I'm a bit obssessive about following that. Anyways.
My name is rather obvious from its origin. Or not at all. I originally got Asura from Ashura, a villian off of early FF games. Its also close to Asura, which is another enemy from early FF games, as well as FF Legends. Not a very annoying boss, but a boss nonetheless.
Of course, I continually learn more about my name. For an example, Asura happens to be from Indian mythology, meaning "demon." However, these demons were not neccessarily evil and could be stronger or weaker then the gods themselves! Interesting, eh?
On a smaller note, I never used this name alone until now. For video game names I choose this, as it is smaller and more likely to fit. For initials I use T.A. or TA, depending on the amount of letters to choose from. Its short for Tonio Asura [my first name + Asura]. So now you know!)
Shugotenshi - October 10, 2003 04:51 AM (GMT)
I think "Neo" is latin or greek for new...i could be wrong. You should have been "Tori" Wren ^^, although "Wren" does have a real ring to it. "Tori" means bird in japanese. My name, Shugotenshi, is japanese. Shugo (to guard or protect) and tenshi (angel). I'm obsessed with the Japanese, and someday...SOMEDAY i'll learn it. I usually use Makoto or Mako-chan, lita's japanese name in "Sailor Moon". (i love that show). But i decided to try something new ^^

Yeah, I'm quite sure it's one of those. I can't remember which though!
Sever - October 10, 2003 05:10 AM (GMT)
To be quite honest I really can't say. I tend to come up with these rather random names out of nowhere. I'm also rather picky about the name I choose because I have to like how it sounds and make sure that it just generally feels right for the character and atmosphere. The best I could do as a more solid explaination would either be relating the word to A) similarity to "Server" and/or B) because of the definition of the word itself--severing the string of being from nasty little bugs in weird and wacky field-dungeons!
Phoenix512 - October 10, 2003 05:39 AM (GMT)
I always like the legend of the Phoenix and sounds cool.
Gojira - October 10, 2003 07:37 AM (GMT)
I choose the name Gojira for my Twinblade because I love to watch Godzilla movies. Gojira is the way the name is supposed to be spelt and prounounced, but when translated, it becomes Godzilla. I have seen every single one, except the American version at least 3 times. I've even sat down and watched Son Of Godzilla and that sucked a whole lot. Also, since there are 25 Godzilla movies now, that would be 75 times I've sat down and watch my favourite, big, mean, green destruction machine go to Tokyo or some random place in Japan (Except Godzilla 1985).
Good times...
Shugotenshi - October 10, 2003 11:38 AM (GMT)
Did you get that godzilla game "Destroy all monsters melee?" i think it's only for gamecube, but it's kinda fun. Being a godzilla fan you'll most likely love it, but i don't think it's worth the $50
that was kinda :offtopic: but yeah...
Godzilla is really pronouced that way?
Marix - October 10, 2003 01:33 PM (GMT)
Yeah It's pronounced that way, haven't you ever seen the american godzilla with Mathew Broderick? They're screwing around with that name and making fun of it all the time in that movie.
Miyabi - October 10, 2003 02:18 PM (GMT)
Mine? We~ell...it came from a character I've had for a good while named --you guessed it-- Miyabi. I'm rather attached to him, even after all the nasty, horrible, painful ways he's died in the past, not to mention having had his gender changed more than once, polymorphed, and been generally abused. He wasn't really bad, just seems to be the brunt of every cosmic joke in the universe. ^.^;;
So I decided to play him here. XD
And besides, Miyabi means "elegant", and he is just so very, very pretty.
Zero_Enna - October 10, 2003 02:58 PM (GMT)
:o I got mine from the anime show "Pilot Canididate
Goddess" (TTMS:did I spell it right?) but that anime
was the coolest accepted it only showed 11 epidsodes
in America.. <_<

I never bought it, but I did rent it. Gigan is my fav in that game, he's like a big cutlery board with laser vision. It was only for GC for a while, but they released it to the Xbox a while back as well.

Don't ever mention that movie around me... -shudder-
Anyways, these are some interesting ways you guys have chosen names for you characters in The World.
Nikkio2003 - October 10, 2003 08:44 PM (GMT)
((OOC: XD Gojira! Gojira! I always was wondering that..if they actually named him godzilla or gojira.Oo; They always sounded like 'gojira'
..Uhm..*thinks up a random excuse for her char's name* It was actually random..hm..cheap excuse time! I only saw a few..hm, Mothra one was pretty good.^^))
You all certainly have interesting ideas for your names.. if not a bit on the strange side..
Mine is not from any other language, and it's NOT from a favorite 'movie' or 'game'.
I had a friend awhile ago, who often visited to help visit the holy terrors I call my neices-who were 3 and 1 at the time- and they tried to say her name. Unfortunately, they weren't very good at their pronunciations yet, and they called her 'jenofa'. She now lives in Italy, but they still remember Auntie Jenofra.
When I started playing this game, as the same now computer-savvy nieces egged me on to playing this game(They are now 13 and 11), I told them to think up a name for me.
After going through such names as 'Aunt_Jemima' and other pranks, Anna-the younger one- thought up 'Jenofa'. I changed it around a bit, not wanting to constantly be reminded of the woman who STILL hasn't given back the twenty things she's borrowed from me, and that's how I got my name.
((OOC:Yes, I put in the Aunt Jemima part in just for you. You know who you are.<_< ))
The_End_Cypher - October 10, 2003 08:59 PM (GMT)
Hmmmm my name ey...?
If I tell you I would have to kill you!!
Lol, anyway, I was watching the matrix one day for about the millionth time, and I came to the part were the agents had just began to intercept Neo and the gang after their visit with the oracle. One agent referred to the traitorous Cypher as "the end cypher". I said "wow" and ran to my comp and registered it.
Funny ey?
Also on every other RP site I join I sign up as Cypher 'cause people leave the "the end" part out.
SO THERE!
Asura - October 10, 2003 09:05 PM (GMT)
(OOC: ph34r he who leaps upon OOCness! Bad Cypher! Bad!
You're mentioning "other RP sites", which directly refers to this as an RP site. As such, you are violating the code of ICness that the BBS follows.
Baka. You've been around for a while. Really.
-He Who Leaps Upon OOCness)
Sever - October 10, 2003 10:29 PM (GMT)
OOC:
Aw, come on, guys! Godzilla (USA Movie) might not have been the greatest thing since chocolate, but it does have one redeeming quality! Me having a relative in it as a stunt-person! B)
:End OOC
Marix - October 10, 2003 11:00 PM (GMT)
Someone related to you was a stunt person in that movie, no way! Ok, so that movie did kinda suck, but still being in any movie (except for independant films that are always about gay cowboys eating pudding), totally kicks A**!
Loomie_33 - October 12, 2003 12:27 AM (GMT)
This name mainly comes from a small story I would hope to start someday. In it I have a character, who's evil, named Zacharius...I figured it just had a nice ring to it rather than something else, so i'm happy with it. :)
stormcloud - October 12, 2003 02:13 AM (GMT)
............................................................................................................. ... .. ............uum. I named me stormcloud from my favorite thing. the greek gods. you know Zeus? Well I think he was cool because he was the thunder god. The only thing I didn't like about him was that he cheets on his wife! Well anyway.....wherever he went, he brought a cloud with him. So I'll call myself Cloud! wait.....people will think I'm copying Cloud from FF7. So he was the god of thunder.........Cloudstorm! no..........stormcloud!!!! YEAH!!!!!
Gwen_Pendragon - October 12, 2003 03:49 AM (GMT)
ooc: Well mines kind of obvious...Gwenivere was Arthur Pendragon's wife...(King Arthur) and i am completely obsessed with him so i created Gwen... IRL shes one of my personalities...there are five of them...and they just keep talking and talking and arguing...continues mumbling and goes off into a far corner...
TheBlackDarkKnight - October 12, 2003 06:01 AM (GMT)
My name came from Soul Calibur...well not really, but I got the name BlackDarkKnight from Nightmare, because he is a BlackDarkKnight, and second of all,I love the power of death and darkness
Lighteria - October 12, 2003 06:17 AM (GMT)
um... well, I-I made mine up actually. Um... It was a-actually the name o-of a planet in a s-story of mine, but it um... it sounded like a name too.
tsetsuda - October 12, 2003 07:49 AM (GMT)
I heard mine on an anime show once and it was stuck in my head for a while so i decided to use it here.
TSETSUDA dosent that just stick to your brain?
Vera - October 12, 2003 11:25 AM (GMT)
I choose my name from my favorite character in one of my books (I have a lot of books that I've written for personal enjoyment). Vera was actually a kitsune of time, who ends up dying, but since shes a spirit in the first place she came right back just with some very nasty vengence.

Shikaro - October 12, 2003 01:54 PM (GMT)
Hello all. Im back again(If you havent seen all my posts saying im back)......but no one cares anyways. I got my name thinking up other names in my head.....lol.....Shi..........hmmmmm...............Tsukasa.....nah..........thats how the process went and eventually got this name...............Shikaro.........Blades of the Merciless Gale.....*Walks away sighing to himself*
Isato - October 14, 2003 12:33 PM (GMT)
Heh , Well heres the story. If anyone has ever played Saga Frontier well anyways one of the seven storie modes the characters name was Red get to turn into a super hero with some really awesome armor and such named Alkaiser. Next I see an old anime called Voltage fighter , I got the name from the main Character cause I loved how the girl / priestess said it ( EEEE*SaH*tooooooo ) and his last named backed bounce in my memory which was Kaiza. also he transformered into Gow Kaizer yet it sounded dumb so I stuck with the orginonal name.
PS ASURA IS A DORK
Mirage - October 15, 2003 05:49 PM (GMT)
I was researcing on old video games and came across an action platform game called 'Silhouette Mirage' since I find the word Mirage to be very interesting, I used that as my name.
