Title: About the .hack games.
Description: This question was bound to come up...

While I am sure almost everyone here has played the games, or at least seen them. I have a question regarding them, which I was rather surprised no one brought up yet. To put it simply,

Who is your favorite playable character from the .hack games?

Now I know in the last two you get even more characters, but who are your favorites from the first two?

To kick it off, mine is Elk! ^.^ I find it strange how some people don't like him, but I absolutely adore him! Need my reasons? Well for one, I think he is way better then Tsukasa. I mean he has a bit of the Tsukasa thing going on with how shy he is, but its very toned down which is why I like him so much. Even though I hear you lose the ability to party with him in the third game. But anyway enough with my fanboyism, cmon people share! ^_^

My favorite is also Elk.

I don't know why I like him I guess it is because he is shy and seems as if he would want to stay by himself most of the time. Like Tsukasa who is my favorite character from .hack//Sign. But other than that he is cool and a wavemaster.

Wavemasters rule... :D

Elk is my favorite as well. Not really because of his resemblance to Tsukasa though. I personally like the wavemaster class. His overall personality is very nice. A bit Mia/aromatic grass obsessed but he is interesting.

I haven't played mutation yet though, so I don't know about the new characters.

Yeah, I'm also a big Elk fan. Mistral's voice irritates me, both japanese and english. Thus, I don't use her often. Elk, on the other hand, he looks cool (regardless of the Tsukasa resemblance), and he's a very mellow, kind character. It's really cool when you give him something "amazing" and he gets all stuttery and such. ^_^

Anyway, Elk is cool.

Well, i haven't played Mutation yet, but i've heard that you get to play as Balmung. That character is my favorite, it's probably just his out fit and stuff. It's all in the outfit!! But if he's not playable in that game then how bout Gardenia, she's a chick with a cool outfit and a lance! How could you not like her?!! What a babe.. now if that was everyday real life, i would marry that women. lol ok, that was too much info...

Balmung doesn't show up as a playable character until .hack//OUTBREAK (vol 3)

I must say that Moonstone is my favorite so far because his character looks kind of cool, but running second (Very closely might I add) would have to be Elk because he's powerful with the magic and his voice is not as irritating as Mistral's. Also even though he is stuck up by not sending you any e-mails in the .hack games I'm ok with that because he just is too shy to talk you know?

Also I've got a question regarding the .hack//Sign show and the games. If "The World" is a game that you play with a controller how come everybody moves and acts like it's real and not just a game. To give an example, on .hack//sign people sit down on the ground, jump around, and do stuff that you just can't normally do when you're playing with a controller. It's as if they are using some kind of VR sensor thing that moves your character exactly the same way you move. I'm not complaining about this because it makes it more and more like a TV show but it's just not reasonable.

Well technically, I guess you don't use a controller. I think thats just the PS2 games. In the show an such, they wear those visors. And I think they somehow react to what you are thinking or something. I'm not sure exactly, I bet someone else can give a better explanation then me.

The only thing I can think of is a helmet that's in the Macross/Robotech series. The helmet transmits thoughts into the machine, making it function as it would if it were alive, even though it had the standard plane cocpit. So I think the VR helmit in THE WORLD transmits thoughts WHILE using the controller.

Hmmm Orca just look so badass, so I would go with him as my favorite. Plus I want his sword! :woot:

Wren - August 4, 2003 08:23 PM (GMT)
Well, if you don't use a controller, then The World must have undergone a downgrade in technology. If you watch .hack//DUSK or LIMINALITY, you'll notice people sitting infront of computer monitors, wearing the visors with headphones and mic, and holding controllers similar to the SNES in their hands. My best guess as to why it works like a "real world" would be a command line. You either hit certain buttons, or a select a string that allows certain things to happen. Thou they never explain it. When you're at a "Terminal", like described in SIGN, you may be in an actual type of seat with neural connections to rid yourself of the controller and you plug in and everything runs on the electrical impulses from your body. Which would be why if you

But I'm not quite sure...

Wren - August 4, 2003 08:31 PM (GMT)
... if you get stuck in the game, you cannot just turn it off yourself, because you're in some sort of chair or setting where your limbs are connected to neural sensors.

(sorry, i forgot to login, and my dog leapt up hitting the enter key on my laptop. ^_^)
