Race be buggered, I'm not even convinced that this forum or the keyboard I'm allegedly typing this on are real. Can anyone prove this to be the case? :kundor:
Merin Sun - January 29, 2004 05:28 PM (GMT)
you're mean :P
and that's real enough.
Eklektikos - January 29, 2004 05:31 PM (GMT)
But am I truly mean? Do I really exist or am I simply a delusion?
omichyron - January 29, 2004 06:23 PM (GMT)
we're all paranoid delusions in Merin's head

Or alter egos of a Chiswick-based economist. If he or Chiswick actually exist :s

maybe we're all alternate personalities of one person sitting at one computer and this whole forum is a giant demented discussion he's having with himself :kundor:

The solipsistic view is that nothing outside your own head is real as it cannot be conclusively proven or disproven. Therefore, you are the entirety of the universe.
Eklektikos - January 29, 2004 06:35 PM (GMT)
Provided of course I exist in the first place and am not a figment of the imagination of someone else who is in reality the entirety of the universe. Or at least thinks he is :kundor:
Switch625 - January 29, 2004 06:38 PM (GMT)
Wrong. Solipsism is exclusively self-centric. If you believe you are controlled or created by some outside agency, that is determinism, not solipsism.
Eklektikos - January 29, 2004 06:39 PM (GMT)
And what if I'm not entirely convinced that anything (including myself) exists at all?
Switch625 - January 29, 2004 06:43 PM (GMT)
That is "Cartesian skepticism."

I'll take that view, then. I think that sums everything up nicely.
