Title: CC Check-In
Merin Sun - March 24, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
Okay, I check in here about once every few months and looking at posting/log-in records, it looks like some of you do, too.
Anyway, let's just have a check-in thread.
As of March 24, 2008:
I graduated in 2007 with two undergrad degrees in Education and History. I am currently enrolled in Miami University to complete my Master's degree in Education. My thesis project is about closing the achievement gap between white and Hispanic students. I am hoping to make this project the launch point of my entire career. At least I hope I get a job soon ;)
I am now dating an incredibly wonderful man, Toby. We were friends in high school but have seen little of each other throughout college. We started dating when I ran into him on campus en route to hash it out with my advisor about whether I should finalize my decision to join the Peace Corp that semester or wait until I get my Masters. I've since decided that I will not go into the Peace Corp because I am now...well...much more attached to this area than I was before *blush*.
Toby and I both just got back from a trip to El Salvador with an Ambassadors for Children group. We spent a week in the country doing fluoride treatments for children, setting up computers in schools, and painting many walls. I really want to do this again and the experience has given me a lot to work with. Based off our experiences Toby and I are developing a needs assessment report for Ambassadors. We both want to go back to El Salvador and I hope we can do more projects.
I'll try to keep the updates coming :)

Well hello! I missed you!
Congrats on the degree, and the SO sounds nice.
Oorla Update:
In 2005 I got my degree in Early Childhood Education, and I now work at a preschool/daycare teaching ages 3-5. A little over a year later, I married the man of my dreams (See my engagement thread. Wait - what is wrong with my thread? It is nothing but a commercial! How did this happen? Is the content gone for everyone, or is it a personal problem?), but I'm not yet an Old Married Folk. Per local custom, I retain newlywed status for the first two years, though that is about to expire.
I have nothing much else to say, other than I am sick right now, and that is making me miserable. Also, my honey and I are in the middle of our Annual B5 Marathon, and that's always fun.
Merin, you're making me look bad. I never even considered joining the Peace Corp. Nor have I made any selfless trips to El Salvador. (Haven't made any selfish trips to El Salvador either, for that matter....) Let me just say that you are awesome.
Now where is everyone else?
Matrim Cauthon - April 26, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Well, what do you know. You are both alive.
Oorla, yes your thred is dead. Slipped into the Web like oh so many posts that have come before...
What's a BS Marathon?
Anyway, I am also graduated with a degree in Biblical Studies (Oorla, that's the other book people believe in).
I am currently the Export Specialist for Trek Bicycle which means that I oversee the group that processes customs documents for exports.
My wife started a new job within the last year so I won't be looking into any changes any time soon. Her job is 100% commission based and we need to get her settled in more.
Ultimately, I want to teach at the Christian high school level.
Currently I am super sore from raking my entire lawn (that yardboy thing is starting to sound pretty good right now...).
Merin, my sis in law broke up with her dude in Hamilton so I only make it as far as Monroe these days.
Good to hear from y'all.

Happy First Day of Summer Vacation to Me!

I have no response to that.
Matrim Cauthon - May 11, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
Of course not. Why would you?
Merin - Greetings from Monroe!!!!

Awesome! :D
This thread works!
Okay: Hullo Mat from the past in Monroe! Greetings from Oxford! :D
Smallish Updates:
1) I just got back from a two week tour of Italy. I visited Venice, Florence, and Rome. It was absolutely awesome.
2) I FINALLY finished up my Master thesis...oh boy was that HARSH! There were so many delays with my project that it was unbelievable. The end result was that I only had about 2 weeks worth of data collection and then about another 2 weeks to analyze the results and hammer out a 50 page paper before my project review board met. But I passed! W00t! I only have one more class to take (currently taking) and then I'm gradumakated all over again.
3) Currently I have an internship with the local museum folks at these historic sites. I get to dress up all pretty in period costume and chase yellow jackets out of 200 year old houses.
4) Toby and I are still going strong. We're getting a lot of wedding hints. While in Italy my Mom bought me wedding goblets, Venetian lace baby christening gown, a Venetian lace table cloth for my "hope chest" *snort*, and invited herself along to my honeymoon. I accepted all but the last...to which I told her that she might not want to come along as any plan of her's to go exploring would be dashed by our wanting to stay in to make wild, passionate love.
5) Still looking for a job. I am applying to all the open teaching positions, but no luck. I am also applying for library and museum jobs. And training jobs. I have been informed that one school has an open part-time teaching position that they're not advertising. I am writing a cover letter for that job right now.
6) If you guys have facebook accounts I am on there. I am PMing each of you my name and other contact info. When you ask to be my find on Facebook just include a short message so I know who ya are...I'm trying to avoid letting psychos see my page :D
Merin Sun - January 13, 2009 02:50 AM (GMT)
I'm engaged :D
Having a bit of trouble finding a honeymoon location, though :S
Matrim Cauthon - March 4, 2009 02:04 AM (GMT)
Congrats!!!
It's funny how we only seem to come here when life's changes occur.
Well as is my custom every March I find new ways to hate my life. St Patrick has struck again.
My wife has begun the process of leaving me. I can't describe what has happened because there are no words. Almost overnight she changed from the love of my life to a person that I don't know or recognize. She has told me outright that she will always love me, but she is no longer in love with me or even remotely attracted to me.
I want to make it work, but she has become a total stranger and has no desire to stay.
If any of you are praying people, I could sure use some.
You guys have always been a great group to talk to and if you frequent any living boards that are interesting (ie. WOTish or the like) then I would love to get caught up and keep in touch. I do have a great group of supportive friends here in RL world, but you guys have always held a special place in my elbow (sorry my heart was full).
Whatever happened to Ghost?
Anyway, I miss you guys. Hope to hear from you within a year or so.

Well, Matt is on Facebook with me but I will keep these updates coming:
July 12th Toby and I got married :) You can see pics if you go to my facebook page. It was a lovely wedding and very tranquil. Unlike the planning. I had foam coming out of my mouth for about a month while I tried to figure out a way to afford a stringed quartet, but I managed!
We chose Wilmington, NC for our honeymoon and had a blast. Nothing but beaches, BBQ, tours, and lovely scenery.
Once we got back to Ohio we got suckered into adopting a 3rd cat. Now we have a Vala, Thor, and Dr. Daniel Jackson ("Jackie"). It is our hope that we'll soon have the complete SG-1 collection.
And I have to admit...getting the 3rd cat kinda forced us to buy a house! Yes! No apartment/townhouse would let us have a 3rd cat without paying a ton of cash each month. So that is what inspired us to go on a crazy search for a house. But we found a lovely home in Cincinnati and I am totally digging it.
On the job front, I am burning out on being a preschool teacher. I'm tired of the drama, the lack of respect by the upper management people, the lack of supplies, and a general lack of support. I am also not happy with how much I am contributing to the household income. SO...that being said...I am currently considering going back to college to get another Master's *winces* UUUUUUUUUUUUGH! I am thinking Museum Studies but I do not know :S
Anyway, that is pretty much it for me! I hope everyone has had a good year :)

Why does this board still exist? Will the cookies ever crumble?
I has a job now. Sometimes, I program. Sometimes, I do not. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Merin Sun - April 25, 2010 10:42 PM (GMT)
The cookie never crumbles and it never loses its appeal! I'm glad to hear that you found a job! I hope you are having fun! :)
I, for one, am glad that this board is still up and running. I subscribed to this thread so that I will know when someone posts. I would have known that you posted sooner if I had bothered to check my email last night. I blame my party life style of chasing my cats around and playing Moon Base Commander with my husband.
Please keep checking in, I love hearing from you guys
