Title: Heroes

Malach - April 23, 2004 05:11 PM (GMT)
Everyone talks about heroes and heroics. This morning Pat Tillman died in Afghanistan. Mr. Tillman was an All-Pro defensive back with the Arizona Cardinals. Aftre 9/11 he joined the army rangers, as he felt it was his duty to serve his country. He turned down a $3.5 million dollar a year contract to play football.

How many people in the world would turn down that kind of money to go and do something, that puts them in mortal danger everyday, just because they believe in a cause?

Is this a hero?

It's all over the news, try espn.com or cnn.com.

I think he's a hero or at least close to one.

The reaction I'm feeling from this action of choosing personal beliefs over material greed is one of almost like an inferior person looking up at a superior being.

He chose the path that not many people would take in his situation and that makes us respect him a lot.

^ I think, heroes are like the firefighters kind of people... they risk their lives to save lives, but go kill someone.. is not saving a life, is a little complex to understand tough, that is just my point of view

Sorry I see it that simply ;)

Big Uncle Gorilla - April 24, 2004 02:31 AM (GMT)
while what pat tillman did was admirable, turning down the $3 mil from the cardinals (he turned down close to $10 mil from the rams to stay w/ the cardinals) does not make him any more of a hero than anybody else over there.

also, while his death is tradgic, i don't think dying makes him any more of a hero than if he came back alive.

pat tillman was married shortly before 9/11, when he decided to enlist. overall, he sacrificed a lot for what he believed was right for family, god, and country. regardless how you feel about war, i think everybody should respect this individuals commitment to his beliefs. his story is both very sad and also very inspiring.

Well, you got a point there... I still think that raising his kids or taking care of his wife or family would probably be a better Idea...

Sorry that sounds too cold

I still admire that he turned down such as large amount of money..

and I am not trying to judge him, well he died thinking that he did something, That is what it counts.. :P

Sorry, I never look at news and am therefore totally oblivious to any significant events that have and will take place.

I agree with both Big Uncle and Toyi, why is this man more of a hero than anyone else that is there? Yes his atruism is admirable, but does that make someone a hero?
