i get an error whenever i try to install anything that requires windows install shield and it said to download the installer but i cant install that

I did something like that to the family pc... never did fix it... and i cant reinstall the OS bcus its missing to many drivers to recognize anything (yes it is my fault again).

hmm ild try just re installing windows. Not formating
Steps: (i know this works for 98 i dont know bout others)
1.Put windows setup disc in
2.open it in the my computer thingo
3.Find the file Setup.exe
4.follow promts

U should keep all files and drivers and stuff.
