Title: is linux *really* gaining desktop use?

I had gotten the impression that linux was gaining a lot of market share for desktop use. But I found this statistics page (scroll down to the os part)
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
and it appears that in the past few months the usage hasn't really been growing that much for linux. I do understand that some people change there user agents to like IE sometimes but I wouldn't expect the average user switching from windows to do this.

maybe i have been reading slashdot to much but i expected linux to have a little more than 1% growth in the past 3 years.

Interesting. It is interesting how you can see XP and Linux going up and everything else... dieing. Alright maybe not everything else. Also interesting that resolutions are getting larger each year.

i seen some statistics that say Linux has 7% desktop share and 25% server share

I wouldn't know about share for desktop, but I would expect the number for server to be higher than 25%.

I dont think that stats mean that 75% is windows.
I would bet a large portion of the server market is still UNIX boxes.
