alright, with my birthday coming up rather soon, and the fact im only allowed to spend 300 bucks(which is no where near one of those 7000 dollar go karts :P ) so I was wondering what books I should get on C++. Here's the list so far....
Teach Yourself C++ in 24 hours - $30 - learning C++
Teach Yourself OOP in 21 days - $60 - expanding on OOP
Teach Yourself Game Programming in 24 hours - $30 - making 2d games
Physics for Game Programming - $28 - physics book that teaches how to implement them into 3d too
Tricks of the game programming gurus - $42 - making 3d game engine from scratch

If I buy a compiler I'll probably have 40 bucks left to spare. any ideas on other good books i could buy? preferably ones that follow the progression, from nothing to 3d game programming. i'll be able to go a little over the limit so if you know another good book above 40 bucks please do tell :)

and another thing, anybody know of any good compilers under 100 bucks? I know there's a borland and...i think an intel one, but thats where my knowledge of commercial compilers end.

i wouldent get a "24 hour" c++ learning book. if it was that simple everyone , there brother, and their dog would know c++. get dietel& deitel 4th edition c++ programing (thats about $80.00), and then get vc++ off ebay for like $20.00. then save the other 200$ for paintball/girls/hunting/whatever you like to do

i'll take a look into a vc book, but the 24 hour one is pretty much as full featured ad Sams teach yourself C++ in 21 days minus all the quizzes, and its about 500 pages. I'm buying another book on OOP because I want something that really expands on OOP, which STY C++ in 24 hours doesnt, but a good OOP book will. I'll take a look at the book you mentioned though, maybe I'll think otherwise :)

dude- deitel and deitel teach OOP from the begining. unless you want to learn super advanced OOP

ok for the deitel and deitel, do you mean it goes from the beginning of C++ and goes through OOP pretty thorougly or do you mean its just an OOP book? I'm looking to get into pretty advanced OOP, which is why I wanted a separate book on it. Do you have a link for that book? I'll probably find one so I guess you dont have to answer that :P

>> EDIT
well whaddaya know my 100th post, didnt even notice, maybe I'm posting a bit much. just putting this so i remember which post is my 100th for when im 80 years old and telling my grandkids about the C++ Learning Community :lol:

>> EDIT 2

yeah thats it. i have the 3rd edition and its basic c++ but it teaches OOP along with it because the theory is knowing "the right way" of programming from the start. looks like the 4th edition teaches a bit of cgi too thats cool. deitel&deitel also has a advanced c++ OOP book if i remember right.

well okay thanks a lot, i'm a little devastated to spend 85 bucks but I think I'll do it. I'll look for that OOP book to but if the Sams one is less money I'll probably buy it :lol: I could just screw programming altogether and get Animation Master :D but...well...just no.
