To: God in heaven
From: Sydney Bristow

“Sydney what is this?” Jack asked as he picked up the heart-covered envelope. Her small feet were soon found beside him.

“A letter” she chirped.

“Yes I see that bu-“

“Can you mail it for me? It’s about mommy, it’s important please, it’s for god, it says right here see” Sydney finished and excitedly pointed to the name.

“Okay sweetie, but is it okay if I read it first?”

“No! It’s private” she exclaimed and grabbed the letter from him, exchanging a dirty look in the process.

“Alright I won’t read it, put it over there so I don’t forget to mail it tomorrow”. Sydney did as instructed and as soon as she did Jack picked her up and carried her up the stairs.

“Did you get ready for bed?”

“Yes, and daddy will you read me Alice in wonderland tonight?”

He answered “sure” just as a brief reminder of Laura crossed his mind.

---

Taking a seat on the living room couch, Jack began to read the letter, after all he was to answer it.

Dear God, my name is Sydney Bristow and I am seven years old and I need your help. My mommy died one year ago and I am still really sad sometimes. Daddy is too and he is lonely too. He does’nt laugh as much as before. Mommy left all her things even her books and when he looks at them he looks angry. Every nite I ask him if he loves me. Daddy says yes then I say and mommy too? He says yes and mommy too. He always looks a little sad when he answers. See god, we are sad mommy is gone so could you please please please make us really really happy and send her back?

Please? Sydney

After five shots of Vodka, tears started to flow. Jack cleaned up then slowly approached the empty bed.

---

two weeks later

“Sydney, there’s some mail for you”

“ really from who?” she asked as she came running down the hall.

“From God”.

“Yay it’s finally here, and he answered me daddy”.

“Yes he did” Jack said as he patted her head and headed to the kitchen. Sydney moved herself to the floor and started reading it.

Dear Sydney,

I am very sorry your mommy is not with you anymore, but she absolutely cannot come back and my apologies for that too. I would love to help you but you can only help yourself be happier. Your daddy loves you and your mommy loves you very much too, you can make yourself happy by always remembering that.

With all my love, God.

The seven year old hopped to the kitchen to find here father.

“Daddy? What are all the hospitals tubes doing on the table?”

“ Sydney!” Jack exclaimed with shock. T

o his surprise he was unable to think of a reasonable explanation. As the syringe slowly emptied in his daughters arm, the letter fell to the floor as did she. Jack turned on the small tape recorder and began to fulfill his duty.

“Assignment: Project Christmas”

“Subject: Sydney Bristow”
