Title: Old School
Description: Back in the Day
K. Ackles - September 12, 2003 11:17 AM (GMT)
Remember when those guitar riffs were everything? Think AC/DC, with their classic album Back in Black. Even JJ realised the greatness of that one! What about Def Leppard? Guns'N Roses had November Rain, one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, with amazing guitar solos. Let's not forget about Van Halen (who could forget them!). Balance was an ultimate album!
What is your opinion on the guitar rock of the 70's and 80's? And who are your favourite bands?
marco - September 12, 2003 12:18 PM (GMT)
i listen to dire straits and queen, golden earring..ya name it. Guns n roses ofcourse to with paradise city and songs like that. Dont forget rolling stones, status qou.
I only listen to some songs of them..mostly their best songs though
K. Ackles - September 13, 2003 08:19 AM (GMT)
Rolling Stones aren't as much old school, because they were still popular into this era...even Metallica are pushing it being called old school...
I love GnR though...November Rain is a beautiful song...*sigh*
marco - September 13, 2003 09:14 AM (GMT)
why arent they old skool.....they are from that era and i consider them to be old skool even though they are still famous now.
If thats your opinion queen cant be old skool either
K. Ackles - September 13, 2003 03:28 PM (GMT)
But Queen were from that era, and still popular now, Rollign Stones are from the 60's right through until now, releasing records...it's also a 'sound'...maybe I'm not explaining thos very well...
marco - September 13, 2003 11:26 PM (GMT)
haha just explain it me okayz lol ... cause i am lost now
K. Ackles - September 14, 2003 08:37 AM (GMT)
Old School is like The Old 70's and 80's rock with the guitars kinda squeeling and that sorta thing...like the Hair Bands...??? Does that help?
marco - September 14, 2003 05:19 PM (GMT)
rolling stones from the 60's? is that true? nah never mind i am getting everything mixed up now...what about the byrds?
K. Ackles - September 15, 2003 05:40 AM (GMT)
Nope...same kinda era...
Old School=Screeching guitars=Van Halen/Def Leppard/Poison/Alice Cooper/Guns NRoses...etc
AgentGill - September 28, 2003 04:42 AM (GMT)
I'm kind of lost . . . I like those bands you've listed there . . .
but I like the pre-old school bands even more as in 1970s/1960s . . . but hair bands are cool too.
I love Led Zepplin (not old school since they did form in 1968 but their music especially Jimmy Page's guitar licks are soooo good) . . . I could listen to them forever.
Neil Young . .. this Canadian rocker has played almost as longer as the Stones and is so influential.
I love the Stones too . .. they've been going strong since the 1960s where back then they competed against the Beatles. Mick Jagger. . . back in the 1960s he was a bit of a bad boy rock 'n' roller . . . I love the Stones did I say that.
Psychedelic rock is awesome . . . but that is confined to the 1960's and when the lizard king Jim Morrison of the Doors died in 1971 the music of the 1960's was lost (ahhh) and the Doors broke up . . . argh.
Post-psychedelic sounds from Pink Floyd are something I can't get enough of - it is Classic Rock but they belong in a class of their own . . .
Nope everyone I've listed are not old school/hair bands.
Let me list a few more artists: KISS, ZZ TOP (Southern rock boogie woogie/electric blues but makes me feel good, lol), Rush, Tea Party (my fav. canadian band but so not old school), 54:40, Aerosmith (how could I forget them), Sloan.
K. Ackles - September 28, 2003 09:23 AM (GMT)
Did I forget KISS??? Bad K! *smacks forehead* I forgot Aerosmith!?!?!?!

AgentGill - October 14, 2003 11:05 PM (GMT)
I was listening to my regular radio station this morning . .. on this day in 1975 was the day that KISS released their single "Rock and Roll all nite" .. . .
Just a nice bit of trivia to get me through today.
K. Ackles - October 15, 2003 09:07 AM (GMT)
That's cool! Did you know that Gene Simmons is an Israeli?
marco - October 15, 2003 01:28 PM (GMT)

K. Ackles - October 16, 2003 09:21 AM (GMT)
That was so classsic! I love that! Have you seen Robbie Williams vid for 'Let Me Entertain You'? He tried to do that, and I don't think he pulled it off, but that's just me!

K. Ackles - October 21, 2003 10:41 AM (GMT)

AgentGill - October 21, 2003 09:12 PM (GMT)

and Sweet Child O' Mine - by Guns and Roses too ... yes they are great.
marco - October 21, 2003 09:53 PM (GMT)
uhm knockin on heavins door is also good
AgentGill - October 22, 2003 01:00 AM (GMT)
Yes it was but it wasn't an original Guns and Roses song .... but a good cover tune. Bob Dylan did the original years back.
marco - October 22, 2003 07:26 AM (GMT)
ohh well its the motto of some of the bands/singers today......better stolen a good song than to write an absolute shitty number.
K. Ackles - October 23, 2003 07:15 AM (GMT)
November Rain was Bob Dylan  Are you sure??? I know Led Zepplin covered Stairway to Heaven, and that was Dylan, but I'm sure NR was written by Axle and Slash?
marco - October 23, 2003 08:42 AM (GMT)
Thats what i thought also but who cares i love the song......plus the title november is good my b-day month :reallyexcited:
K. Ackles - October 24, 2003 11:00 AM (GMT)

Not November Rain. I was talking about Knocking on Heaven's Door.
NR is my favourite G and R song .....
AgentGill - October 24, 2003 09:29 PM (GMT)
I remember one Golden Earring song ... Radar Love ... I have to confess that I don't know much about them though.
K. Ackles - October 25, 2003 09:51 AM (GMT)
I only know Radar Love, now that you've mentioned the song!
marco - October 25, 2003 07:26 PM (GMT)
Another 45 miles, twilight zone, radar love, burning stuntman, the devil made me do it, when the lady smiles.
