Title: The Death Penalty?

nor_forty_four - August 30, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
What do you think is better, the death penalty or life in prison?

I_LUV_Fred_Weasley - August 30, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
Well I'm with the Death Penalty because I live in a state where 2 policemen have been killed this year which is pretty pathetic.

harry-potter - August 30, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
I would pick death penalty. Life in prison..no way.

zamber - August 30, 2007 10:56 AM (GMT)
I think that they should make prisons worse than they are because were I live most of the prisons are realy comfatable and often people who have little commit a crime just to end up in prison.
But I don't think there should be a death penalty because its not making the offender suffer for what they did. But it does make their family and friends suffer from their death.

Chocolat64 - August 31, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Though the death penalty is not justified whatsoever, it is a better solution financial-wise. It costs so much money to house the prisoners. Unless the prisoners are devoting their time to our country through various acts of community service or even participating in our Army, then the death penalty is the easiest solution.

Loony_lovegood223 - September 1, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
I believe in life in prison. The death penalty is just a fancy way of murdering someone.

Chocolat64 - September 1, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
There's good and bad in both sides. :(

nor_forty_four - September 4, 2007 09:28 PM (GMT)
I personally am against the death penalty. If one person kills someone, is it setting a good example to kill them as well? "Murder is wrong, kids. You know what we do with murderers? We murder them!" great example.

Trash - September 4, 2007 10:47 PM (GMT)
I agree with nor_fourty_four. As... someone said,
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

harry-potter - September 5, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
Yeah! You do not have the permission do take a persons life. Of course! I sometimes wish the Dementors kiss was real. That would be perfect. There soul gone, but the life still in them. Its just like a privelege being taken away.

nor_forty_four - September 5, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
exactly. Let them be consumed with guilt and agony until the day they die. That is punishment. With the death penalty we basically end their misery and that's that.

Chocolat64 - September 12, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
At the same time though, it's not worth punishing us over. We pay for their living. Making sure they have food and room and board, basically. It's like a super crappy college. It's ridiculous.

Like I said: MAKE EM SERVE US! :D

Pete Best - September 12, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Most people make parrole after 50 years or so anyway which I hardly consider a life sentence

Loony_lovegood223 - September 12, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
How do we even know if the person in question really deserves the death penalty? Sometime we punish someone of a crime they didn't commit and then they get the death penalty....its just wrong...

nor_forty_four - September 13, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
Yes, and then 15 seconds later the person they "mudered" waltses into the room.
haha, that happened on a soap opera once.

Sora Saridian - September 15, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
i only believe in the death penalty in the case if the person is Extremely dangerous but other then that i dont believe in it

Chocolat64 - September 17, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
If a person is so dangerous to society, the person needs to be isolated and studied. We can prevent future harm if we can locate what the drive is for serial killers/rapists/etc. I mean, sure it's a number of things, but... you know. It could always help.

:]

Lici - September 18, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
thats a really good point
and i think life imprisonment, as long as they are definitely imprisoned for life, none of this 50 years stuff
although in australia, the jails are so bad that most people end up dieing before the 50 years is up
anyway
i think solitary confinement is the way to go...no human contact whatsoever
if someone murders someone else, they shouldn't get to be able to associate with people anymore
i don't think thye get the right to have the quick and easy way out and get killed
its not fair...when they commited the crime they affected so many people, they should have to suffer for what they've done for the rest of their life.

Pete Best - September 18, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
If thier in solitary confinement for thier whole sentence they would probably go crazy

in a matter of years

nor_forty_four - September 18, 2007 07:40 PM (GMT)
definately. But I still think it is better than killing them.

Pete Best - September 19, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
Im just against the whole solitary confinement thing making them go nuts isnt much better than killing them

Lici - September 19, 2007 08:26 AM (GMT)
But shouldn't they suffer for making others suffer?
and eye for an eye?
i think killing them is kinder, which is why i think they should go into solitary confinement.

Pete Best - September 19, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
No like trash said An eye fer an eye makes th' whole world blind

Lici - September 20, 2007 10:43 AM (GMT)
technically it doesn't because everyone would still have one eye

Pete Best - September 20, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
Either way solitary confinement is not the way to go no matter what they did

Lici - September 21, 2007 11:39 AM (GMT)
well...according to you we cant kill them, and we cant put them in solitary confinement, so what are your suggestions for someone that has taken someone elses life and ruined the lives of that family, and the persons friends?

Pete Best - September 21, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
Putting them in solitary confinrment for the whole sentence would make them go crazy in my opinion that would be toture

Lici - September 21, 2007 11:06 PM (GMT)
Well I think that we shouldn't kill them, so the next best thing is solitary confinement...it's not like we can put them in a regular jail, even a high security jail, they'll just keep killing people.

Pete Best - September 22, 2007 01:06 AM (GMT)
How do you come to that conclusion?

Lici - September 22, 2007 03:27 AM (GMT)
because every year there are thousands of deaths in jails that we don't hear about because they are criminals...they have no way of stopping criminals from making weapons and killing each other.

Pete Best - September 23, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)
If we dont here about them how do you know about them

Lici - September 23, 2007 12:30 AM (GMT)
Because when I went on a commerce excursion to the Police Museum and they told us about how horrible jails really are, about the drugs, and the murders, and the police have barely any control over them, so putting someone in jail isn't going to stop them from killing people.

Terri - September 23, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
But aren't they just killing each other?

Lici - September 23, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
they're still killing people, who has the right to take another persons life, no matter what their status, colour, race, whether they're a criminal or not, everyone is a human being, and there is no one on this earth that has the right to kill another. WHy does it matter if its criminals killing criminals, they're all people.

Terri - September 23, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Ya that's true but I don't know I don't like the death penalty or thinking of them being stuck in solitary confinement. Also though there are alot of people who come out better from being in prison.

Lici - September 23, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
Actually, there aren't. Because the prison system is so screwed up most people who come out of prison are the ones that are most likely to go back in, just because people go to jail doesn't mean they're going to change.

Terri - September 23, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
That's true why is that the only people I know of got a life sentance and died in Jail

Lici - September 23, 2007 02:04 AM (GMT)
um...im not sure i understand you.

Terri - September 23, 2007 02:07 AM (GMT)
Sorry I meant Why is it that the people that come out quickly do something wrong again.

Lici - September 23, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
Because of they have spent time in jail they find it hard to assimilate back into society and end up committing another crime when thye become frustrated.
