Title: Cloning/Stem Cell Research
Chocolat64 - August 22, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
How do you feel about the controversial issue?
harry-potter - August 22, 2007 03:26 AM (GMT)
Doesn't cloning mean, taking a cell out of your body and reproducing it to make another you or whatever?
nor_forty_four - August 22, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
Cloning - Bad,
Stem Cell Research - Good.
Stem Cell research could possibly cure currently uncurable diseases,
and cloning is just down right unnatural.
harry-potter - August 22, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
There is only supposed to be one you. More than one means trouble. And stem cell research is something that will help everyone.
zamber - August 22, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
I don't know about Step cell research but im not realy into the idea of Cloning. As said earlier its just not natural. How would you be able to tell the difference between a clone and the real thing. They could be all sorts of imposters around.
harry-potter - August 23, 2007 02:26 AM (GMT)
Well...that really isn't the point. Is it? It easy to find which is a clone. You can make a clone, but it doesn't need to act like you...
Terri - August 23, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
Cloning - Bad,
Stem Cell Research - Bad
I don't like either they just both seem wrong to me!
harry-potter - August 23, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
How can you say Stem Cell research is bad?
Terri - August 23, 2007 02:31 AM (GMT)
Well they use the embroes of unborn babies and well they can't really give their consent.
harry-potter - August 23, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
How do you know? I mean...its a research...it will help us all, you know.
Terri - August 24, 2007 01:58 AM (GMT)
I know but it just dosen't seem right. When you clone someone or take the cells and try to regenerate them you are takeing the place of God you know and when you do that something bad always happens.
harry-potter - August 24, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
Of course! But stem cell research adn cloning are 2 different subjects! Cloning is bad, the stem cell research is good!
Terri - August 24, 2007 02:09 AM (GMT)
But in the end they are the same thing aren't they?
harry-potter - August 24, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
Not really. Cloning is different. Stem cell research is about cells and how they work and things and if they could do something to help us all.
Terri - August 24, 2007 02:14 AM (GMT)
Ya but is about fixing cells reproducing them and in the end makeing a whole which would be cloneing
harry-potter - August 24, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)
No..because they are thinking of mending the cells already inside you...but cloning is making a whole new figure.
Terri - August 24, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
Right I guess i have very little knowlage on the subject
Sirius_Black - August 24, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Stem cell is a “generic” cell that can make exact copies of itself indefinitely. It is a precursor cell that has the ability to make specialized cells for various tissues in the body (such as heart muscle, brain tissue and liver tissue). Stem cell research is expected to impact advances in curing diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, spinal cord injury, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and cancer.
www.sciencecoalition.org/glossary/glossary_main.htm
Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which have the unique potential to produce any kind of cell in the body and self-renewal capacity. Medical researchers believe stem cells have the potential to change the face of human disease by being used to repair specific tissues or to grow organs.

^^^ Basicly, adapting our cells to give us, almost, the ability of 'super healing'. Personally, I believe that this kind of research would do WONDERS for medical science.
Its too bad people make good things, bad. If it happens, it WILL be abused. And as such, I oppose it.
harry-potter - August 24, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Its ok...you'll get to learn more about it as this topic keeps continueing.
James - August 24, 2007 03:27 AM (GMT)
Stem-Cell Research technically has nothing to do with cloning a human being. We already know how to clone a human, but the life expetancy is cut in half.
Stem-Cell Research is using baby fetuses(sp) and experimenting with them so we can clone human organs. Not a whole human.
It does kill a person (although some people argue with this seeing as the fetus isn't really producing into a human yet.) but it's helping save more than one person.
I, for one, and with Stem-Cell Research yet against it. Im with it because it's helping us find a way to save peole from cancer or liver/heart disease. But It's sad because we kill something that would become a person. yet the world is over populated...
I am in between. :indifferent:
harry-potter - August 24, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
So wait..are you saying the stem cell research basically clones a human organ adn not the whole body. But how does it help people with cancer or liver/heart disease?
zamber - August 24, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
Brainwave. Clone animals that are endangoured and it could help the speicias live on. Although the dissapearences of animals is mostly humans fault in the first place.
harry-potter - August 24, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
Yeah...I agree. But we can't clone...cloning is bad. It may kill people too....
Chocolat64 - August 26, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
In the world, we already have natural clones. Fraternal Twins. Split from one embryo to make two. It's a natural process.
You say that cloning and stem cell research would go against God? "God" put these diseases that people die from and suffer from everyday, and you don't think he expects us to try and preserve our human race by using the very tools he gave us? Our brains were made from him, why not use them? If we have the knowledge and know-how to cure people, then we must use it.
Why let people suffer? Science and religion are two seperate fields. Scientists and bible-thumpers differ on everything from curing people to the creation of life. Religion should have no say in this.
It's an embryo. It's not fully developed. It doesn't have a name. It doesn't even have a womb to carry it. Would you rather the embryo just sit in a test tube and not be made into anything?
My views?
Cloning = pointless.
Stem Cell Research = vital to our existance.
zamber - August 26, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
I think that neither should be done for people because there is way to many of us and if theres a mass outbreak of a killer desease then it would help the world and even help some of us.
Terri - August 27, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Ok now that I officially know what stem cell research is I agree with is sometimes. I do not agree with it when they are using the stem cells from an aborted baby.

because then that person'd have the very same liver if they had liver disease.
And go Britt. I agree with the religion seperate from science. and with the natural cloning. yay.

haha, good point, I never thought of that.

Nah no one wins XD
Stem Cell Research i agree with it but not completely do to the fact of using Embryo but yes stem cell research will eventually help us one day with disease and stuff like that
Cloning-Is only good if you use your clone to get out of class!

What I don't get is why people are against using embryos?
They use embryos for stem cell research, not fetuses. Saying that when they use and embryo is like killing a human is like saying that every sperm that is wasted is killing a human...a sperm and an embryo each have half of a persons DNA. So basically you're saying that every time a guy ejaculates he is killing millions of people.
Why should we waste the embryos that are never going to become humans anyway?
If a woman has her fallopian tubes tied and she has eggs left...then why shouldn't she be allowed to give the eggs to stem cell research, that way they can help another human being
And they don't only use embryos to do stem cell research, they also use the blood out of the umbilical chord, its just that people aren't asked if they want to donate the blood (which is never going to be used) and they dont know about it
as for cloning...they don't have the technology to clone a human, they're still trying to work out how to clone a horse...and have it so its brain function is that of a normal horse...they're no where near cloning humans yet, and personally i don't think their ever going to get the technology to have the ability to clone humans, our brain power is so high order that it is near impossible to copy any one person brain functions.
