How did the Gryffindor sword came back to Hogwarts? The book said that Neville was sitting with the sword on the table. I thought the Goblin Griphook took it.

firstly, the sorting hat gave it to him when he cut off the head of the snakes.
Secondly, the sorting hat took the sword of gryffindor magically from griphook when a true gryffindor needed it, remember the words in the second book when dumbledore explained how the sword emerged from the sorting hat for harry.
thirdly, it says it in the book.

haha, because it said so, nice explaination.
but, yeah, I agree. The sword emerged from the hat because Neville, a true Gryffindor, needed it
