Ultimater - December 26, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
Seeing that Dumbledore joined Sirius and with the prophecy yet to be fulfilled I think it's a great title. Whatcha think the hallows part refers to btw?
Carissa Dodge - December 26, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)

i know i got some whsmiths!the hallow bit is coz harry decides to go bad to the place were his parents died and that Godricks hallow or something.
Dissonance - December 26, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
That's Godric's Hollow, fleur.
hal·low (hāl'ō)
tr.v. hal·lowed, hal·low·ing, hal·lows
1. To make or set apart as holy.
2. To respect or honor greatly; revere.
Hallows also refer to Saints, (Feast of All Saints, is known as All Hallows).
In the middle ages, the word 'hallows' was used to describe relics of saints; if someone was to "seek hallows" it meant they were visiting the shrines or relics of saints. It was believed that the saints themselves were present within these objects, and that the objects served as a sort of vessel through which the saint was present on earth.
J.K. Rowling announced the title of the book on her website on December 21, 2006. In a way, this was foretold in Order of the Phoenix, in the Hall of Prophecy, when several of the prophecies shatter:
"Two figures, pearly white as ghosts, fluid as smoke, unfurled themselves from the fragments of broken glass upon the floor and each began to speak. Their voices vied with each other, so that only fragments of what they were saying could be heard over Malfoy and Bellatrix's shouts.
'...at the Solstice will come a new...' said the figure of an old, bearded man....
'...and none will come after...' said the figure of a young woman.
The two figures that had burst from the shattered spheres had melted into thin air (OP35)."
December 21 is the Winter Solstice, and since this is the final book in the series, "none will come after."

It's not so much the spelling, but the thing in question.
I'm sorry, I wasn't attacking her spelling.
emmanuelle snape - December 26, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
ooc: Sorry i got a bit over protective! She is actually my twin sister!
Carissa Dodge - December 26, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)

Like I said, it's not a question of her spelling, but that the fact that it is named Godric's Hollow, not Hallow.
Thus it has no link to the book title. I was trying to point out her misunderstanding.

emmanuelle snape - December 26, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
Sorry so do you think Harry will be killed off or not?
Dissonance - December 26, 2006 09:13 PM (GMT)
If... 'hallows' was used to describe relics of saints...
... Maybe "Deathly Hallows" are a reference to Horcruxes?
Think about it.
weasley_twin_lover - December 26, 2006 09:15 PM (GMT)
i dont think he will but i do think the title has to do with the things he has to find.
emmanuelle snape - December 26, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
I think it will be a shame if he does, I'll miss laughing at neville! He is my favourite character.
fleur - December 26, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
i thank you for all that elle but it wasn't nessasary i could of handled it by myself..but thanks..yes it would be a shame wouldn't it.

1. Dissonance was right to correct Fleur. Didn't say it cruelly, just said it. To be honest, I believe Fleur needs to be more careful in her spelling. The excuses of being stupid don't apply, spellcheckers exist. even just running your post through word will correct alot of mistakes.
2. Stop spamming this topic. It's been said, it's been done. GET OVER IT.
3. I like your ideas, Dissonance.
James - December 27, 2006 06:01 AM (GMT)
OOC: Thanks, X.Sandman, but you can't scold the other students. At least I don't think...:indifferent:
Stop bickering about that. You guys are off topic. Talk strictly of Book 7
x.Sandman - December 27, 2006 06:14 AM (GMT)
ooc- Heee, you're oblivious! Tis me, Sarah, .Vendetta. You know, Courtenay.
bic-
Deathly Hallows... I agree with Dissonance. I think the title relates to the Horcruxes, as "saint relics"- they're all relics, and most of them are all pertaining to the founders of hogwarts, which would relate to the "saints" bit.
emmanuelle snape - December 27, 2006 07:45 AM (GMT)
I just can't wait until the book is actually out!
fleur - December 27, 2006 08:27 AM (GMT)
i know some shops are already pre ordering it!!

Haha, actually I had the vague idea that "Deathly" referred to Voldemort, and his "relics" are the Horcruxes, but I think you're nearer.
Deathly could be "Deadly" or "Subjective to Death", I think.
Okay, looked it up:
1. causing death; deadly; fatal.
2. like death: a deathly silence.
3. of, pertaining to, or indicating death; morbid: a deathly odor from the sepulcher.
4. in the manner of death.
5. very; utterly: deathly afraid.
Anyone?

OOC: How am I supposed to know when A.) I've been gone for ages and B.) you're constantly changing your name. But hi Courtenay.
Did you guys know that OotP kinda sort of said when the title of Book 7 would be released. Something about what the prophecies said in Ch. 3-something. Where the prophecies break and Harry and Neville could only hear fragments of what they said.
Just so you know..... :indifferent:

Yea, that was what I was thinking myself.
Since you mentioned the saints thing, something just popped into my head.
Deathly = deathly
Hallows = saints.
Deathly Saints. From what I have heard, Draco Malfoy has called Harry "Saint Potter" [in movies and fanfiction, I believe. I'm not quite sure about the books]. If J.K. decided to relate the books with the movies and other media, it might mean something totally unpredictable.
I think this is an unbelievable idea and that it would never happen, but maybe J.K. wants Harry to become evil, then die evil?
I don't think it'll ever happen, but then again, what else could end a series so dramtically?

Hmm. If he does go evil, he'll be the next Anakin Skywalker... Teens everywhere would die from broken hearts, because their childhood icon has gone to the "dark side".
Lost Prophet - January 22, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)
I think it would be a rather nice twist if he did go over to the dark side.

Dissonanc, this goes towards you too:
The way you two treated fluer is inexcusable.
That was flat out rude of both of you.
So she made an error?
I spell "hollow" the exact same way she did "hallow" because THAT is how I was taught to spell it in my english class.
Some foreigners are taught spellings that are quite different from how you may actually spell them in your culture.
I will not have the moderators being rude to the other members.
Simply saying it was a mistake, or NOT SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL would suffice.
You were both being flat out rude.
You know very well neither one of you use spell check, I've seen plenty of members with spelling errors. In fact, I'm sure I"ll look over this later and find PLENTY of errors in my spelling.
Fleur is nothing but nice to all of you, and there is no reason for either of you to be bashing her because of one error.
You know very well that was your offhand way of calling her stupid.
THAT I will not tolerate.
[qote="Cade Posted on Jan 21 2007, 11:32 PM"]Deathly = deathly
Hallows = saints.[/quote]
He made the same error and NONE of you had a thing to say about it. You just kept going on about fleur.
Sarah, you've said you don't like me being flat out rude to you, I've been nothing but nice. And look at the way you return my putting trust in you?
Bashing other members?
Putting them down?
In every way you were attacking fluer in that message.
Nobody was spamming either.
Everybody seemed to be making valid points, or standing up where she DESERVED to be stood up for.
Seriously, whose going to run a post through word before posting it?
That's rediculous. Most of us don't have three hours to post a frickin' message.
ANd she's nost stupid.
In my time here, she has to be one of the sweetest people I've seen come through. And yet you all still attack her.
This isn't high school people. Stop treating it like it is.
I'm sure she was being careful in her spelling, she just didn't realize she didn't KNOW the correct spelling.
I didn't know it either.
Thankyou Dissonance because you did teach me the correct spelling since I didn't know I was spelling it wrong all along also.
x.Sandman - January 31, 2007 12:49 AM (GMT)
I wasn't attempting to be rude, nor was I calling Fleur stupid or bashing her. I was merely saying that unless there is a specific reason, there is very little excuse for Fleur- or, for that matter, anyone- to make many spelling and punctuation mistakes, and if you say that you are stupid, it isn't a reason.* You don't need three hours to simply paste your post into word and correct the spellings.
| QUOTE |
| You know very well neither one of you use spell check |
As a matter of fact, on most occasions I do a quick sweep of my work. Most "spelling mistakes" I make are the differences between American English and... well, English. I use a British spell checker, so anything American English is taken as a mistake and I unfortunately tend to listen to my spell checker.
And I can't say that she is the sweetest person I've come across because we've never personally spoken, so I don't know her at all well, but I can agree she's nice. I must insist that I wasn't attempting to attack her, not at all.
On a technicality, they were spamming with the little amount of bickering over what Dissonance said. After that, Carissa Dodge posted going “ahaahaaa”, which could indeed be counted as spam as it neither moves the topic along, or gets it back on topic- it just fills a space in which something a little more worthwhile could’ve been said.
I apologise if I came across rude. When I say something matter-of-factly, I often don't think to soften the wording I use and sound rude. It is not intentional, or bashing, I assure you.
*I think, but cannot particularly remember, but at the time I was referring to how Emmanuelle Snape said that Fleur could not help her spelling, which I think I took to imply that Fleur wasn’t particularly clever in the spelling department, which was what I meant by saying you’re stupid doesn’t apply as an excuse. I hope that makes sense- it was a slight misunderstanding on my part.

well its kind of ironic that its coming out on the summer solstice and it is a new book and that it will be the end of the series
ohhhhh noooooo
Dissonance - February 14, 2007 10:06 AM (GMT)
I was not being rude, I swear. I was just trying to say that her mistake wasn't a typographical one; Godric's Hollow has nothing to do with the "Hallows" in the title. Maybe she forgot or mistook and thought it was called Godric's Hallow? I don't know. I just pointed it out to her.
