Title: Metal Fight Beyblade Manga
Kai-V - August 11, 2008 12:53 PM (GMT)
This thread is for discussion on the anime and manga part of the series.
Here are pictures of the main character ... :

http://www.cybertigeranime.com/bbspirit/MFB_CoroCoro2.jpgHis name is Ginga.
phoenixmiko - August 11, 2008 07:31 PM (GMT)
He looks cool! I'm loving the the spiked red hair. He bears a resemblence to Daichi, doesn't he? Maybe he's related to him in some way.
By the way, is Takao Aoki drawing the manga? It sort of looks like his style. Do you know when the manga is going to be published in Japan?
Kai-V - August 11, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
"Aoki Takao" is not mentioned anywhere yet.
I have not seen an official release date for the manga.
Kuznetsov - August 11, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
So I'm still looking forward to seeing what the rival's character will be like, not to mention all the other blade's characters... I have to admit although it's early days, the new hobby side has caught my interest more.
Daichi was a favourite, maybe even moreso than Takao, that was made very clear in the manga at least. If it is still Aoki Takao's work it wouldn't be suprising if he created this character as the son or any other relative to Daichi, to give a character like Daichi a chance in the main character spotlight this time around.

Thanks for this! I know you will tell us when the manga's out. I hope Aoki Takao is drawing the manga.
I'm looking foward to seeing what the main character's rival will be like too and what the other characters will look like. It's no wonder Daichi was a favourite, since he gave us a change from reading about Tyson in the manga. I hope this new main character is related to him! It'd be nice for someone like him to be the focus of the storyline!

no need to insult deviantART members. Most are better.
I was thinking he might look slightly better with a coat or something ...
Bey Brad - August 11, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
It's just ...
I thought the new series was in a very urban direction, so I was expecting something ... cooler? Trendier? Think more like "The World Ends With You" more than "Saint Seiya meets lazy character design"
Ugh, actually, The World Ends With You would have great designs for this series. Wow I'm disappointed now.

Something like those designs would have been much better. I too am disappointed.

The first few images of the Bakuten Shoot 2000 manga were quite scrappy-looking like these new ones, we shouldn't judge it just yet. Look at the general differences between the old manga and anime.
And if you had seen this instead:

Would it have been though of as much different?
Main characters always look like that anyway, primary colours, spiky hair, some sort of hat/headband.
Though in my mind I have to admit the style made me think it could be something like Getbackers but we have to remember the age group it's aimed at...

That's true. It's only human error, plus the character (even when the manga begins) will still be developing both in depth and the way they're drawn, since mangaka (manga artists) tend to improve their style/skills as their manga progresses. This happens a lot in many manga series; I've compared the first volume of a manga to the second to last volume and seen a big difference in the way characters are drawn in lots of the mangas I have read. I'm sure this character's appearance will get better and better as time goes on!

Absolutely. It looks like at least a little effort went into this design.
Kai-V - August 13, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
I agree with Brad.

Just look at the colours, the clothing, the face expressions, the first impressions, the (lack of) details, the accessories, etc.
Kuznetsov - August 13, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
I probably shouldn't have used an illustration for the cover of the first publicated manga as an example... Of course it's going to have a few extras. I still don't really understand why we're making so many judgements on only 2 raw images.
On which looks like better crap, they both look terrible but we have more to work with for the first manga.
The new character is already older from the start so that leaves room for improvement.
Captain Nat X - August 13, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
To me the new kid looks like a lazy mish-mash of elements from the old characters, especially Tyson and Daichi (unless he is some how related to Daichi, in which case the likeness is forgiven). And what's with the random lightening bolt that goes down his forehead - weird? I was hoping for an artistic improvement on the old characters, I hope the style of the anime is on par with G-Rev and doesn't regress to Beyblade season 1. I was secretly hoping they'd bring the old characters back.
The other team members better be more original that this guy anyway. I'm betting on a girl being in the new main group.
Kai-V - August 14, 2008 01:28 PM (GMT)
Captain Nat X, I am really unsure about there being a girl. especially on the main team. Beyblade is a Boy Hobby.
Also, Kuznetsov, this is the cover of one of the earliest issues that featured Beyblade, back in 1999 :

It really is not that different compared to following manga designs. If anything, this is what Takao looked like in 1999, for the game :

That is still better than what we have now with Ginga.
Captain Nat X - August 14, 2008 02:19 PM (GMT)
I only thought they might add a girl to the team to broaden their market. I thought that was why Hilary turned up in the 2nd season? Even so, I'm a girl and I like Beyblade regardless of any female characters.
Kuznetsov - August 14, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Kai-V, thank you for providing those images, the latter was what I had in mind for showing first but my memory of it was clearly not as it actually is, though that's probably because the new images make it look better... I do understand where you are coming from about the quality, I just personally want to see more images before form any overall opinions.
The only reasoning for there to be a girl on the team is that Leone has pink patterns, so considering that's the best I could come up with, I honestly think it will be all-boys again as they are still the largest target market.
Kai-V - August 24, 2008 12:32 PM (GMT)
Another scan of Ginga :

Either he only decides to wear this cape for the first few chapters, either it really is part of his outfit.
Kalikko - August 27, 2008 08:25 AM (GMT)
I'm beginning to miss the old characters...
Ginga looks like a cross between Johnny and Daichi XD
I think Takao's cuter :/
But Ginga looks less wimpy
Wish there are cameo appearances HAHAHA
phoenixmiko - August 28, 2008 07:56 AM (GMT)
I miss the old characters too but it's still possible that they'll be in the manga or make cameo appearances, they just won't be the main focus of the storyline.
Captain Nat X - August 28, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
Oh dear - now he's gained a cape... which looks like Kai's scarf.
Kai-V - September 1, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
Kai-V - September 3, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
So, hopefully I have started a conversation with Adachi Takafumi. He is very busy, but there is a chance he might answer some questions as time goes by.
He told me that the order he received was to make a completely different series. He knows that previous Beyblade anime fans might not like this new season.
It also seems as though he was told only a few months ago that he was going to draw Metal Fight Beyblade.
Many things have not been decided yet about the manga.
Captain Nat X - September 3, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
From all that's linked to here of the brief glimpse of the new manga, it looks ok. I like the image of Ginga in his cape walking down the street - looks interesting.
DranzerV2 - September 4, 2008 06:51 PM (GMT)
The one thing I'm really going to miss is the bit beasts. I wonder if that's what the animals on the beyblade is for
Does anyone know?

I personally do not think there will be some holy beasts or that they will have a major role in the new series. For instance, there is a beyblade called Libra, which is represented by a set of scales ...

Thats great that you were able to contact Adachi, Kai-V. It would be really interesting if you got to ask him some more questions once he has some free time.

Yes, I am still waiting for a response to my latest reply (almost a week ago). But I can understand him being busy : CoroCoro will publish a chapter of the new series in a few days, and I understood from his words that few details had been decided yet.
If I ever get Adachi Takafumi's reply and that he does not mind me asking questions, I was planning on doing some kind of survey to see what Beyblade fans might want to ask him.
Kei - September 7, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)
I'm still somewhat puzzled as to why they chose Adachi to work on the series, rather than Takao Aoki. Obviously, Takafumi is providing a new perspective on the series, which is justified by the fact that MFB is basically a reboot of the franchise, but on the other hand, Aoki has a much better grasp on what Beyblade really is. Aoki could have easily come up with much better characters than Takafumi has thus far.
Maybe I am just thinking this way because I just don't like Adachi's drawing style, who knows.

I am sure many fans would love to have that opportunity.
Bey Brad - September 7, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
Maybe Aoki Takao wasn't interested in doing Beyblade again?
Kai-V - September 8, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
If I compare the popularity of Beyblade 2001, 2002 and G Revolution in CoroCoro with a marketing eye, the third season was quite bad. I do not think Takao or a later version of Dragoon ever was featured in big on the CoroCoro covers during the G Revolution times.
I would think, TAKARA-TOMY knows that something went wrong with Beyblade for the sales to have dropped as they did. Perhaps they did not figure out what exactly.
phoenixmiko - September 8, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
You're right. Something wasn't right in the way they marketed G-revolution or it would have been as popular as it was in the West. I wonder what it was...
To me G-revolution was the best season out of all of three that have been aired in terms of plot, character depth and design. I agree with what previous users have said on here; Takao Aoki would have done a much better job at the designs for MFB. Let's just hope these characters aren't as shallow as they seem to be or that if it turns out they are like that in the manga, that their designs and personalities are much more developed in the anime!
I don't like Takafumi's manga style either but I'm hoping there'll be some appearances of the characters we all know and love from the previous seasons of Beyblade in the manga but if not the anime. I'm also hoping that the same people that animated G-revolution will do MFB, since for me the character designs were perfect in the third season!
Keep up the good work, Kai-V! I hope your correspondance with Takafumi bears fruit!

Cover for the first volume in CoroCoro :

Where's that scarf come from?! Looks way too much like Kai's. Is that a coincidence or a conscious decision? Weird choice...
Bey Brad - September 16, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
It looks like the cover design is the one that will be used:

If that is not Adachi (never seen a photo of him), that BETTER NOT be the new BLADER DJ!

I am certain that is not Adachi Takafumi.
He has been hosting several WBBA events in the past months, and he probably does act as a DJ. There was another man doing that job before him though.
About Adachi Takafumi, he does not want to answer questions related to Metal Fight Beyblade because he finds that it is unfair to give information to only one group of fans, which is understandable. I however asked him if we could ask questions about him; he has not replied yet.
In any case, I can most probably send him the fans' impressions on the new series, since I know he reads my messages.
