Today, the trial of GNGD leaders, which had been aired on Perejaslawl public TV all that time, was over. The jury, which on this special occasion consisted of thirteen members, one from each province of the country, unanimously found the accused guilty of: high treason, conspiracy against legitimate government, mass murder, and crimes against humanity, including genocide. Party leader, Minister of Defence, and Minister of Security of GNGD government, who were among the accused, and who, due to the nature of their positions, bear direct responsibility for actions which resulted in numerous civilian deaths during the civil war, were sentenced to death. The rest have received various prison terms, from 20 years to life sentence. Death sentences will be carried out by the end of this week. (Traditionally, all executions in Perejaslawl are public, and are performed by beheading with an axe; the only crimes punishable by death are murder, rape, and high treason).
On a side note, the Royal military police, which was tracking down and chasing war criminals after the war ended, had identified the "People's Militia" officer directly responsible for deaths of two Tolomakian citizens who disappeared on the territory of Perejaslawl before the war; he was the one who commanded the militia squad which murdered them, among others, during the pogroms. In interrogation, he had pointed out the location of a mass grave where their bodies were buried; they have been found and exhumated, and we are now awaiting instructions from Tolomakia on what to do with them next. We are also willing to extradict that officer to Tolomakia to stand trial for his crimes against their people, if it is so desired.
We don't see any particular reason to change the traditional way, which has been working just fine for the last 900 years. And it's definitely much more humane than some recent developments such as electric chair or gas chamber.
Capital punishment exists in our nation but is rarely necessary. On those rare occasions, our tradition dictates death by firing squad, but various legislators are now trying to have it replaced with lethal injection.
Acknowledging the conclusion to the war in Perejaslawl, Mostarvia will now end it's partaking in the no fly zone enforcement as we longer see it necessary.
