Title: A corrective look at the population figures
Description: a proposal to increase realism

Thracia - January 5, 2004 08:12 PM (GMT)
Nations of the Balkans,

The Thracian government has, from the very beginning, been very suspicious of the population figures given to us by the UN.

There is no doubt in our mind that these figures are over-inflated. They just cannot be accepted at face value.

Since the beginning of December we have been testing a new method to "read" these population figures. And we are now confident enough about this method so as to propose it to every nation.

Our method is simple: Divide the population figure by 100 -- or, eliminate the last two zeros of your nation's population figure .

So, according to this method our nation's population's would not be 2.1 billion, but just 21 million, which is a very reasonable and realistic figure for a country our size.

We look forward to your comments, counter-suggestions and improvements to our method.

Excellency: We would concur with that perception that there is inflation of population numbers. We have to say that even with the influx of refugees there is NO WAY we have so many people as the U.N. says We have. It is like the Weimar Republic inflation, Our poor women would have to have sextuplets at every accoucment from age 13 to produce this rate of increase!
Best Wishes

This seems like an excellent idea, and would solve any problems which could be attributed to overpopulation and get rid of useless argument over territory.

Thracia's figures make alot more sense and seem more realistic than the UN's. The UN figures are much to high, the entire world must have more than a trillion people with there numbers.

byzanthine - January 7, 2004 01:18 AM (GMT)
Could be...but that could give problems for future reference with non-balkan nations....

Thracia - January 7, 2004 03:58 AM (GMT)
Let me just make a correction:

The Alans, in the regional headquarters, made a good point:

The population figures are not actually given to us by the UN, but by the game itself. It was wrong of me to blame the Un for these inflated figures.

Montfortslavia - January 7, 2004 04:51 AM (GMT)
Were still the biggest nation

The Bulgarite - January 7, 2004 08:47 PM (GMT)
We agree with Byzanthine. We would have to play with one set of figures when dealing with Balkan nations and another when dealing with non-balkan nations.

I have made the same proposal for the entire NationStates, but, so far, not many people found it interesting.

Take a look at

I wonder why they decided to make the populations grow so fast in the first place.

By the way if you wright to Max Berry he replies and it only take two months someone could ask him why is grows so quickly.

Thracia - January 10, 2004 01:10 AM (GMT)
I will seriously consider writing to Max berry. Thanks, Borgman.

borgidiom - January 10, 2004 03:20 AM (GMT)
Have you read his books, Tharcia. I am so proud to be in the same country as the great man.

Thracia - January 10, 2004 07:13 AM (GMT)
No, I haven't read any of his books yet, but now that the paperback edition of Jennifer Government is out, I am planning to.

Its not bad, nothing fantastic.

Srpska Kosovo - March 31, 2004 09:05 PM (GMT)
I think that this is a great proposal. I've always thought that the population figures were far too large. Hopefully, everyone will accept this proposal.

Csabaland - March 31, 2004 10:50 PM (GMT)
Dimo, have you written to Max Berry since?

Thracia - April 1, 2004 12:04 AM (GMT)
No, I had completely forgotten about it.

There was little support for my proposal in the NationStates forum, and I thought may that wasn't worth pursuing.

I`m in full suport for your idea Dimo(may a call you like this). This is realistic population. But from today everyone have only 5 milion people.

Thracia - April 1, 2004 07:54 PM (GMT)
Let us hope that today's population reset is just an April fool's joke. Otherwise it would be extremely unfair to old nations.

Daimyo Oda Nobunaga - April 9, 2004 08:19 AM (GMT)
I think we have to made poll to see the support og this good idea.
