When You Left
When you left me,
You never said goodbye.
When you left me,
You never said you'd see me again.
When you left me,
You never promised me I'd be happy.
When you left me,
You never said goodbye.
When I was born,
You said you loved me.
When I was born,
You said, "Don't worry I watch over you from the nursery window."
When I was born,
You promised you'd make me happy.
When I was born,
You said, "This isn't goodbye, it's I'll see you in a few."
When you left me,
You broke all your promises to me.
When you left me,
You broke my heart and crushed my world.
When you left me,
They told me it was better this way.
When you left me,
They said it was God's will.
When you left me,
Nothing was better.
When you left me,
I began to curse God's will and focus on mine.
They've said lots of things over the years,
Trying only to make me feel better.
But they didn't know about all the broken promises.
They didn't know about the victories and failures in my
life that neither one of us would see.
They didn't know about the fears of a little girl
that only her father could console.
They never knew about the life of a little girl
that she and her father would miss out on.
A life never seen by her father.
A life never lived by his little girl.
All because you had to leave.
Crying alone, in the dark, curled up in my own
little corner of the world,
Failing.
