SOAD isn't bad, but to me all thier stuff sounds the same. Also, I heard they suck live and that's a huge turn off for me.

Call me crazy... but I still say NOFX STARTED the whole pop-punk genre. They took a pretty brutal form of music, added pop and rock elements, and came up with their signature style which has become ever so popular in the mainstream as of late. But hey.. what do I know?

Well it seems like my musical taste is quite off from what everyone else is listening to... but oh well, here's my current 10 faves:

1. Children of Bodom
2. Dragonland
3. Vintersorg
4. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
5. Less than Jake (5 years later... reliving my Hello Rockview obsession)
6. Sonata Arctica
7. Royal Crown Revue
8. Pennywise (Once again.... reliving my past with Full Circle)
9. Dungeon
10. Blind Guardian

1. Once again, I'm not trying to pick a fight. But I've never got what was so damned cool about OP IVY. I mean, I give them props for starting the ska-punk scene, but I don't think their music is all too great. They're quite overrated if you ask me.

2. If NOFX isn't pop-punk... then I would LOVE for you to give me a concrete definition of their genre. Straight up punk? I think not. Ska-punk? A few songs here and there don't constitute them being in the genre. I'm not saying being pop-punk is a bad thing... but if you don't think NOFX is pop-punk then you must not understand the definition. Punk sounds nothing like what NOFX is doing... because they incorporated POPULAR rock sounds into their music. Groups like Blink 182, Millencolin, and Rufio have ALL been influenced greatly by NOFX... whether they make the SAME MUSIC more upbeat, or slow it down... it's still 3 chord music with very little progression.

I wouldn't doubt most new bands sounding bad live because they sound like shit on the radio in the first place.

As for NoFX being pop-punk, I dunno. I'm not a hard core punker so I really wouldn't know. NoFX sounds more punk to me as apposed to say, Sum 41 (blah) type music or Good Charolette.

*cough* I'd have to agree L337.

I like...uumm...Aerosmith, Incubus, Metallica (Before the Black Album), Lynyrd Skynyrd, and pretty much everything else from the 70s/80s/early 90s. I like Soundgarden..and Audioslave is okay too.

Ein, super corgi - August 18, 2003 08:07 PM (GMT)
I like Moxy Fruvous, the Beatles, the Pillows, most bands that play jazz, the guys who make the music on Invader Zim, I can't remember the names of the bands that my friends Cliff and Noah are in but I like their songs (espicially "Take the Lucky Snowball"), among other bands that I can't remember the names of right now.

SLIPKNOT!

Old Mettallica, NOFX, Ati-Flag, Dead Kennedys, Dropkick Murphys, AC/DC, Nirvana, Mustard Plug, Reel Big Fish, Rammstein, Rage against The Machine, Lynard Skynard, Queen, Powerman 5000, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Offspring, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Goldfinger, Misfits, along with some Marylin Manson and KoRn.

Regarding NOFX: NOFX is not pop-punk if not far from it! Of course other music bands have been infulenced by them *cough*ripoffs*cough* but that doesn't mean anything! Alot of music is influenced by other genres, thats how genres form! NOFX is far from the pop-punk bands of Good Charlette and Sum 41. You might want to listen to their music alittle closer before throwing them off into some random genre that sounds the least bit simmilar with their style. So...is NOFX straight up punk? Probably not, is it punk? Completly, is it pop-punk? Never. I think if anything NOFX would be something more of a light punk rock.
