Title: ASRL Survey Results
chriswalkerbush - September 19, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete the first ever ASRL Survey. Below are results and any interesting comments that came from the survey. Feel free to discuss.
Running of the Rising Star Conference
Could be improved - 33%
Good - 42%
Excellent - 8%
N/A - 17%
The general consensus was that it was often forgotten which, as many of you point out, is a time factor. As a result, I am willing to 'offload' handling of RSC reports to an interested party
Running of mid-season internationals
Awful - 8%
Bad - 8%
Could be improved - 8%
Good - 42%
Excellent - 13%
N/A - 21%
Running of State of Origin
Awful - 4%

Running of Loans
Awful - 4%
Bad - 25%
Could be improved - 27%
Good - 23%
Excellent - 14%
N/A - 9%
Clearly this system earned a mixed response. As a result of this, I'm looking for expressions of interest to thoroughly develop a system that is both simple and efficient. If you're interested, contact me
Running of Finance
Bad - 8%
Could be improved - 8%
Good - 42%
Excellent - 42%
There has already been discussion about revamping the finance system for greater realism and to better reward active coaches. If any changes are to be made, they will wait until the conclusion of the season
Running of TV Games

Glad it's still enjoyed, heh
Key Gripes
- The contract system: I urge players to give this new system a chance before condeming it, as those of us who designed it really think it will benefit both new and experienced coaches.
- Loans: Affordability. As I've mentioned, perhaps a revamped system is required
- Feeders: There have been complaints about people having lose their feeder clubs. Perhaps a return to the old selection would be best, but then the newer coaches would go back to being punished despite heavier involvement then some 'veterans' (guys like Big Mick and Theo were punished under the old system)
More to come...

Player Rating
The general consensus is that player rating should be done by a smaller group, without giving as much leeway to people not on the board. My thoughts are that, rather than have a board specifically to rate 'across the board', that we divide responsibilities into competitions. For example - some people to handle NRL, some to handle ESL, some to handle Union, and some to handle QLD Cup etc. etc.
Do You Agree with Coaches Being Limited to One Team?
Yes - 92%
No - 0%
One per division - 8%
Involvement in ASRL affiliate competitions
ASWF - 19%
Cricket - 43%
NSL - 29%
SportsBet - 48%
It's good to see the cricket league gaining momentum
There has also been interest expressed in running/joining an AFL, NFL, basketball, or soccer affiliate comp if it was started. If anyone wants to start these, feel free. I can host your forum space if need be.
Satisfaction Level within the ASRL
Really Enjoying It - 46%
It's fine - 38%
So-so - 4%
Unhappy - 8%

No - 13%
Yes - 74%
Three people have also offered to help run the tournament. Could those who said as much please contact me and let me know who you are?
Thoughts on the new contract system
Wait and See - 50%
It's fine - 17%
Preferred the old one - 8%
Preferred the draft - 4%
Prefers no contracts - 4%
Where Should ASRL Clubs be able to be based?
Australia Only - 17%
Oceania and Pacific - 17%

Suggestions were made to allow teams from the USA, England, and also from Commonwealth Nations. As a result of this, the ASRL's 'team placement policy' will be reviewed

id be more than happy to help out with figuring out a new loans scheme...i personally like the idea of undetermined loan amounts. ie. Club X decides to loan Player Y to Club Z - the two clubs come to an agreeable price, and choses a selection of acceptable contract clauses - that are determined by whoever does work on the loans system. The clauses would be grouped like so:
A) Form Purchases
Option 1. Paid for by loaning club
Option 2. Paid for by club receiving loaned player
B) Training
Option 1. Paid for by loaning club
Option 2. Paid for by club receiving loaned player
Option 3. Split 50/50
C) Length Of Loan
Option 1. Four Weeks/Games
Option 2. Eight Weeks/games
Option 3. Duration of season
Obviously other areas would need to be looked at, but this would make it simple on both the person handling the loans/finances - as they would know exactly what was going on with each club, but also for the parties negotiating the loan, as they would have clear guidelines on what are, and what are not acceptable terms for the loan.
it would take a bit more refining, but at least its a start :)
Chris - im going to email my teamsheet tonight, as im leaving for Melbourne Tomorrow and won't be back again until Sunday evening.
Cheers

I was one of them...

One of the biggest things with the feeder is guys like myself who are involved heavily and know everything about the Toowoomba Clydesdales I lost them, same with Maunder and Norths. I just think it was unfair the new way it was done and I think that it should go back to what we had because I got screwed pretty hardcore on it and so did a fair few other coaches!
chriswalkerbush - September 20, 2005 08:13 AM (GMT)
The new system was put in place to reward heavily involved coaches, not just people who had been around for a long period of time. Maunder, as great a guy as he is, hadn't been particularly dedicated (nor has he been this year) and didn't deserve to be rewarded for that ahead of guys like Roger, Big Mick, and Theo who contribute a hell of a lot in terms of game mechanics.
westspanthers - September 20, 2005 09:03 AM (GMT)
Yeah but what about myself, I have always helped out on the stats board and alot of other things, plus helped people with players to claim when they need to know about there Qld Cup teams. How come I was so far down in the list?
bumper_benny - September 20, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)
Yeah there were some people above you who i thought might have done less. But this is going to be done season to season, so just because you dont have them this year doesnt mean you might not get them next season. Toowoomba went 5th, and even though it seems mickyj is quiet now you'll probly have to be in that top eshalon of people participating/running the ASRL
pennywisealfie - September 20, 2005 11:43 AM (GMT)
i dont really mind this new system but i revised way might help say the dudes that are doing well with it like theo, roger, josh etc can keep there teams where as the others will lose it, i dunno just a suggestion.....i dont mind losing my team, i was just trying to be an asshole lol
bumper_benny - September 20, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
There had to be an original draft though to make sure guys like Theo and Big Mick got teams reflective of there input into the ASRL. I think if we keep it revolving there is more chance of people ending up with teams they want. Josh missed out on Toowoomba, but those top 5 probly do contribute a bit more then Hussey. Couple of ghosts there now however, like Brandell (just as an example) so Hussey will move up the rankings due to his continued participation.
Chris Columbo - September 21, 2005 02:53 AM (GMT)
I'd be tempted to join the board and take on more responsibilities if it meant i could compete with Magro for first choice of dogs juniors, i actually take the time to read about their juniors and its the only side i bother to do so with. I wouldn't mind a feeder again either but id prefer to have first pick of dogs juniors.
