Title: Favourite action hero characters

As I was surfing the net, I noticed that there has been confirmation that a "Rambo 4" will be made in 2006. Sly will reprise his role, with Burt Reynolds also in the cast.
I am a lover of action movies, so I'd like to know who your favourite action characters are.

1. Rocky Balboa : Simply the best. Won an academy award for best film (Rocky 1). The most inspirational action character ever portrayed on screen. Beating up Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago is no mean feat ;) .

2. John Rambo : The first movie was simply brilliant. Very underrated performance by Sly. The most amazing thing about John Rambo was that despite all the damage he done in "First Blood", he only killed ONE person. He killed a police officer in a helicoptor by throwing a rock at him. What skill!!!
To top it all off, he took on the Vietnamese and Russian armies with a machine gun, RPG rocket launcher and a bow and arrow. Kudos to him.

3. James Bond : Will this man ever die??? The most achievements of any character in film history.

4. Mad Max : The best action character in Aussie film history. This guy sure liked to kill bikie ass.

5. John Matrix (Commando) : The lines Matrix delivers in this movie are priceless. "He's dead tired", "I'll be back, Bennett", "Let's party", "Let some steam off, Bennett" and many more. How he could carry all those weapons on him in that final action sequence, I'll never know.
But, that is why he was truly great.

6. Paul Kersey (Death Wish) : A muggers worst nightmare. If I met him in a dark alley, I'd rather kill myself than suffer pain inflicted by Kersey.

7. Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry movies) : The lines, the attitude, the big Magnum. By far, the best police character in big screen history.

8. Harley Davidson (Harley Davidson and the Malboro Man) : With Mickey delivering lines like "It is better to be dead and cool than to be alive and uncool", this movie can't fail. What a nice message to deliver to our future generation.

9. Marion Cobretti (Cobra) : Nath would totally agree with me in this one. "You're the disease, and I'm the cure" is a highlight quote. Cobretti has everything a red-blooded man would like. He has a cool pistol with a cobra on it, cool sunglasses, chews a toothpick all day, a totally cool hot rod and a beautiful model. What a man!!!

10. Cheng Ci (Fist of Fury) : Bruce Lee at his intense best. The title does not lie about his fury.

Well, my taste in action movies is substantially 'younger' although I do respect John Rambo, Harry Callahan, Rocky Balboa, and Paul Kersey. My own contributions would be:

- Dutch (Predator): Predator is still one of my all time favourite action movies, and Arnold's 'Dutch' kicks ass.

- Marv (Sin City): It's a more recent addition, but Mickey Rourke's 'Marv' is the ultimate anti-hero. A cold blooded sociopath who goes on a war against the highest echelons of local society after his whore lover is murdered.

- The Punisher (The Punisher): A very underrated action movie, in which Thomas Jane plays a Punisher hell bent on revenge. I've rarely felt the need to say 'wow, that's excessive' in a movie.

- Riddick (Pitch Black): Ignore the rather shithouse sequal (Chronicles of Riddick), but Vin Diesel played one hell of a cold blooded killer in the original, lower budget horror.

- Corben Dallis (The Fifth Element): Another underrated movie, Corbin Dallis is a great combination of comic timing and being a general bad ass.

- Jason Bourne (The Bourne Identity/The Bourne Supremacy): Again, the sequal was shit, but Matt Damon reinvented himself with this awesome action character.

I wouldn't count Rocky as an action hero.

My Favourites would be.

Ash (Evil Dead) Bruce Campbell "Hail to the king baby"

Nada (They Live) Rowdy Roddy Pipper "I've come here to do two things, kick ass and chew bubblegum....and I'm all out of gum"

Batman (Batman) Michael Keaton "I'm Batman"

Laurie Strode (Halloween H20) Jamie Lee Curtis. No real great quotes but when she cut his head off at the end the cinema was up in applause.

Nine? are you mad? He's top 5 for sure. :bang:

Corben Dallis def. deserves a start somewhere in the top 10...
