- Demonstrate a history of recent success
In recent season, the Ferrets have struggled a little with and aging side, and have dumped alot of older players which helped them to a Semi final
in the 2001/2002 season. The Ferrets now are in a rebuilding stage, and will hopefully improve as they did last season, going from the wooden spoon to 11th place in a season. Their RSC side has done well, in their first season coming 8th and nearly upsetting the Wizards in the first round of the finals, second season
they narrowly missed out on making the finals, and in the current season are sitting in 2nd place.
- A committed coach
I am one of the original ASRL coaches and currently coach 3 sides, The New England Ferrets, The Northwest Kookaburras and Samoa.
I also run the ASRL related cricket competition, which next year I am looking to make bigger, I am also the current ASRL NRL tipping comp champion, taking
over from Chris Bush, and most recently encouraged ASRL coaches to become involved in a good web based competiton I found on the net of which only about 3
people joined which was dissapointing which meant we did not get the 14 teams we needed to be a separate comp and we were blended in with other comps.
- A history
The Ferrets joined ASRL in 1982, and were a reasonable successful side straight away, playing in the 1987 grand final and losing 17-10 to Manly, and then winning the title in 1989 against Manly, who dominated the ASRL between 1982 when the Ferrets joined, and up until 1989, where in winning that final 16-12, took
the title away that Manly had managed to win 4 times in the past 8 seasons. Since '89 there has been little finals success for the Ferrets, in the 01/02 season,
ging to the Semi finals, losing to the Gold Coast, who went on to take the premiership.
- A place in the ASRL
The New England Ferrets are based around the university city of Armidale, and their feeder clubs include towns such Armidale, Glen Innes, Tingha,
Guyra, Uralla and Inverell. A major city north of Armidale, Tamworth also has its own team, but Armidales area that they serve is roughly the same population as Tamworth. The two towns being only 1 hour apart also encourages the population of each town to travel to opposition games if their own team is playing an away game for a round. Some past and present players from the Ferrets feeded clubs include Nathan Blacklock, Preston Campbell, Jason Ferris, Phil Bailey, and Stuart Webb.
