Martin Gleeson and Sean Long have been banned for four and three months respectively.

The two were found guilty on Thursday of breaking Rugby League bye-laws forbidding betting on games involving a player’s own team.

The pair were alleged to have each won almost £1,000 after backing their under-strength team to lose to Bradford by more than eight points at Odsal on Easter Monday.

Saints coach Ian Millward left out 11 first-team players and the Bulls won 54-8.

Gleeson, who played in the match, is suspended until 17 October, the day after the Super League Grand Final, with Long banned until 17 September, both with immediate effect.

Both will be available for Great Britain in the autumn Tri-Nations.

They were also each fined £7,500 and ordered to pay costs of £2,205 each.
