im having some problems with the main riff, i cant get the timing right, does anyone know how to play the song? and if you can would you mind giving out some info on how to play it?

Okay, the only way you're going to do this is by first counting the rhythm.

What your really need to know for this song is 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16th notes. In each 1/4 note, there are 2 1/8-notes, and 2 1/16-notes in each 1/8th-note. That means 4 1/16-notes in each 1/4-note.

This part's in 4/4 timing, so that means there are 4 beats per measure, and each beat is a 1/4 note. You count 1/4 notes like this: The numbers in parantheses are the counts.

8th notes you count like this: The plusses are "and"

-(1-+-2-+-3-+-4-+)-

16th notes: The "e's" you pronounce as "ee"

Finally, here's Disposable Heroes: I separated the notes into groups because when you listen to the song, they're kind of "grouped together" in this fashion.

Good news Mechanix! It's not as confusing as I thought. I realized there is no extra 8th note, I just made a mistake in labeling the counts. :wacko: Take a look at the modified post and see if it makes more sense now.

ok, that helps out a little bit, but it doesnt sound right when i play it, i donno, maybe i messed up with my timing or something

Listen carefully to the song until you know the rhythm by heart and can vocalize it. You gotta learn your notes and timing though because you'll never be able to do stuff like DH if your timing sucks. Once you get it, it's easy.

if your not gonna download the demo for tabit then atleast download guitar pro.. its easy when you actually see the notes being played

i tried learning disposable heroes... fucking hard.. I slowed the tab down and thought I got the melody... but then at full speed fuck it... but atleast I have fast downpicking... not that it helps

Are you talking about the main riff? If you are, just slow it down, get used to it, and then speed it up. You don't need midi playback for this one. Just find a tab that tells you the time signiture, and if you can, one that also gives you the note durations. Just keep repeating "1, and a, 2 and, 3 and, 4 ee and a" until it becomes automatic. (those are the rhythm counts by the way.)

i know I changed the tempo for the song to really slow... and then I listened and repeated it and would play along but its just hardeer fast.. I guess Id have to practice.. i skipped th epart about me only practicing it for like 15 mins... <_<

about the downpicking, unfortunately this isnt a song you can downpick through (ive tried), but it is good to be able to downpick fast.... hey Metman, doesnt James only downpick or is that b.s?

i also tried to learn it, i probably gotta practice more too.... stupid school... taking guitar time away from me

That's total Bull Shit. He's mainly talking about 8th notes and 16th notes at slow tempos. The 16th notes in DH are humanly impossible to down pick. Usually guitar is all about feeling, but this one also requires a mastery of mechanix (pun intended :lol: ). Once you get alternate picking and rhythm counting down, this one's not that hard.

ahh ok gotcha... if only the 16ths in DH were possible to downpick, that would make my life a lot easier

yea Im a fast fucking downpicker... alternate pikcing is easy for my on ever string accept big e :( but downpicking Im an animal, mainly cause I downpicked solos when I first started playing, and I sucked and I tried learning mop the minute I got the guitar

dude Trem pick, thats what i do when i need to alternate pick, it makes it soo much easier... yea i did basically the same thing when i started playing guitar... but i dont do solos

Or better yet, start slow and gradually build speed. When I first started playing thrash riffs, I tried tremolo picking on the low E, but it was too sloppy. Plus it's nearly impossible to keep a rhythm with trem picking.

its hard for you to keep rhythm trem picking? its pretty easy for me... but then again everyone plays differently, its actually harder for me to do regular alternate picking... but then again i use like 1.5-2.0mm thick picks
